The participants for the 2013 Home Run Derby were announced on Monday, but A.J. Burnett waited until Tuesday to vent his grievances about his teammate who didn’t make the cut — only he forgot to turn on spell check.
Slugger Pedro Alvarez of the Pittsburgh Pirates won’t be swinging for the fences at Citi Field on Monday, and Burnett made it clear online that he didn’t agree with the snub. What he didn’t make clear however, was that he knew how to spell his teammate’s name.
Check out Burnett’s struggles and excuses for the misspellings below.
Will somebody explain to me how the hell Pedro Alveras is not in the Homerun Derby? Does the National League not wanna win? #ElToro— AJ Burnett (@wudeydo34) July 08, 2013

On Monday, the Pirates pitcher took to Twitter to compain about teammate and one of the NL's top sluggers , Pedro Alvarez, not being selected for the Home Run Derby .
That's A-L-V-A-R-E-Z. Let's see how A.J. did.
Will somebody explain to me how the hell Pedro...
The Home Run Derby is one of the most exciting parts of the Major League Baseball season. The derby is a chance for some of the best power hitters in baseball to show off their skills for their peers and fans but Pittsburgh Pirates Pedro Alvarez was snubbed of that honor this year.
Alvarez is batting .250 with 23 home runs and 58 RBIs for the Pirates. That performance...
A.J. Burnett made an effort to stand up for teammate Pedro Alvarez on Monday, but he ended up in an embarrassing situation instead. The Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher was stunned and disappointed to learn that Alvarez, who is third in the NL with 22 home runs this season, was not chosen by David Wright to represent [...]

This is pretty hilarious stuff from A.J. Burnett.
According to a story via Larry Brown Sports, the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, had good intentions when he went to Twitter yesterday to voice his displeasure that teammate Pedro Alvarez, who has 22 home runs this season, was left off the NL Home Run Derby team by David Wright.
Well his beef with Wright quickly became secondary when...
A.J. Burnett took to Twitter on Tuesday night with very good intentions, but he ended up getting a hard time instead from a whole bunch of folks. A.J took to Twitter initially to voice his concern about teammate Pedro Alvarez not making the N.L. Home Run Derby squad, but he had a little spelling issue. An by little, we mean a big one. Check out his struggle below.

There was much dismay, consternation, anger, irritation, even exasperation that National League captain David Wright did not initially select Pedro Alvarez to the 2013 Home Run Derby.
“Everyone got to gyrate,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said.
Point is: Alvarez is in now...
David Price expressed frustration today via Twitter that Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper, hitherto there seemed to be no rivalry with, was selected to compete in the All-Star Weekend Home Run Derby, rather than Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez. No Pedro Alvarez for #hrderby?? And he’s from NY…Harper is unreal but with 12?! Really?? I love Bryce but Pedro deserves it!...

The Pirates lost 2-1 Tuesday night to the Oakland Athletics to drop their fourth-straight game and third-straight series loss. This fact is significant.
Over these three July series, Pittsburgh’s offense has averaged a below-average 8.4 hits and 2.9 runs per game. This fact is more...
Pedro Alvarez of the Pittsburgh Pirates has replaced Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies for the NL team in the All-Star Home Run Derby.

The MLB draft signing deadline is tomorrow at 5 PM EST. To see who the Pirates have already signed, check out the Draft Pick Signing Tracker. In previous years the draft pick signing deadline always had some sort of drama surrounding it. The question marks throughout the years:
2008: Will Pedro Alvarez sign?
2009: Will the Pirates sign any more prep pitchers?
2010: Will Jameson Taillon...
Last night I wrote about how the problem with the Pirates offense this year has been that three positions in the lineup struggle against left-handed pitching. Pedro Alvarez, Neil Walker, and the right-field duo of Travis Snider and Jose Tabata have all struggled against lefties this year.
Platoons are very underrated. Or should I say the left-handed side of the platoon is underrated...
“Yo, dude? What’s up with that? Come on — El Toro’s born and bred in NYC!”
That was one Pirates’ fan’s reaction when learning that David Wright had snubbed Pedro Alvarez for the home run derby on Sunday. Alvarez is second in the National League in homers and fifth in MLB. Last night, when he walloped his 23rd home run, this was how Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown called...
From Adam Rubin:
David Wright was supposed to be the target of fan and announcer venom this weekend in Pittsburgh for failing to select Pedro Alvarez for the Home Run Derby.
Well, Alvarez is now in the competition, after Carlos Gonzalez withdrew with a sprained right middle finger, MLB announced.
Alvarez is a New York native who graduated from Horace Mann High School in the...
Mets (40-48) at Pirates (54-36)
7:05 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh
The Bucs host the Mets in their final series before the All-Star Break as they look to finish the unofficial first half strong. New York may look like an easy opponent, especially at home, but the Metropolitans have actually been playing quite well lately. They’ve won four in a row and haven’t...
