AJ Feeley to be cut after all
According to Jay Glazer of Fox sports, the Philadelphia Eagles will be releasing AJ Feeley at some point today.
It turns out that Eagles General Manager Tom Heckert was bluffing, he only placed Michael Vick on the exemption list in order to keep a spot open for AJ Feeley so he could sucker the Patriots into a trade. Obviously the Patriots were a little too smart and saw through Heckert's scheme. Now that the Eagles realize the scheme did not work they are ready to release AJ so Vick can continue practicing with the Eagles.
Now Feeley is a "vested veteran", a vested veteran is a player with four or more years of service and is handled differently then a non-vested veteran. A non-vested vet goes through waivers as soon as he is cut. A vested vet only goes through waivers from the trading deadline to the end of the football season.
Since it is prior to the trade deadline, as soon as the Eagles cut Feeley today any team can acquire his services if they choose to do so. The Patriots are believed to be ready to snatch Feeley up as soon as he is released.
Because the Pats were cleaver enough to see through Heckert's ruse they didn't have to give up any players that they valued in order to get AJ.
So they can have their cake and eat it too.
