PLAYERS: Sandy Alderson
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says he expects to be able to bring some more talent to New York via trade or free agency by the end of the season. Addressing a group of season ticket holders, the general manger says he knows he has been talking about the need for patience for 2 1/2 years, but expects that to be rewarded soon. Alderson says the Mets have stockpiled young talent while working through most of their bad contracts and should be able to try to build toward a team that makes its fans proud every week and every month of the season.

Alderson Preaches Patience, Will Look To Add MLB Talent To Team In Next Six Months

This morning at Citi Field, Sandy Alderson, Terry Collins, and a few of the players, participated in a Q&A session with season ticket holders. We have John Delcos there and will file a full report later, but here’s a quick summary for you to chew on until then. Alderson said that he believes the team has reached the stage where he can begin to add veteran major league talent...

MMO Featured Post: On The Cusp Of Respectability, What Should Mets Do Now?

I was gratified to read Sandy Alderson’s recent comments regarding a strategic shift in the Mets’ front office. Specifically, his statement to the effect that he feels that it would be worthwhile for the team to begin to add established major league talent to supplement the roster indicates to me that major decisions have been made with respect to the limitations of the organization...

Has 2013 been a step back for the Mets' young core?

Before the 2013 season started, most Mets fans were quite aware that the team would not be competitive. Many were perfectly willing to take another year of losing baseball if it meant that the team was moving toward eventual perennial competitiveness. What’s another losing season if it meant that the team’s top prospects were inching closer to making their debut, the young core...

Playing the role of Sandy Alderson

There have been all kinds of happenings in the Mets organization of late. Ike Davis – who was supposed to be one of the big bats in the Mets’ line-up – was sent down to Triple-A along with Mike Baxter and Robert Carson. Davis has struggled immensely this season with a batting line of .161/.242/.258 and has been on a downward plane since injuring his left ankle in a collision...

The Sandy Alderson Improvement Plan

It was the stuff of Candid Camera. It has since become known as the “Marshmallow Experiment.” In 1960, Stamford Professor Walter Mischel, wanted to find out whether delayed gratification, having to wait before attaining a satisfying outcome, was healthy for people. Mischel devised a study to find out. Mischel brought together a group of young children in a test study. Each child...

Alderson: Montero Is A Long Shot To Be Promoted To Mets In 2013

Echoing what Terry Collins told reporters on Friday, Sandy Alderson told season ticket holders at Citi Field this morning, that Rafael Montero is a longshot to be promoted to the Mets this season. He cited an innings limit as the reason and said he’s currently about 70-80 innings away from being shutdown for the season. Last season, Montero tossed just 122 innings and he is already...

Parnell Is Going Nowhere And I’d Bet Murphy Is Safe Too

Andy Martino of the Daily News is reporting that a source told him the Mets do not intend to trade Bobby Parnell as the trade deadline approaches and consider him to be a “valuable” piece for the team. Martino says this supports Alderson’s claim that he could be a buyer at the trade deadline and not a seller which many expected to be the case. The GM’s decision not to shop...
