from Katie Strang of ESPN,
One of the league's scoring leaders, Tampa Bay Lighting center Steven Stamkos has evolved since breaking into the league as a first-overall draft pick in 2008. Stamkos tells ESPNNewYork.com's Katie Strang about his maturation as a player, the advice he's received from teammate Martin St. Louis and which baseball team has his heart (sort of) in this week's installment of the New York Minute.
STRANG: What's your take on this team as we near the midpoint of the season?
STAMKOS: I think we got off to a great start. Obviously, we took advantage of the good schedule in our favor, a lot of home games, catching teams back-to-back, [we] got off to a 6-1 start. Since then, it's been a little bit of a different story. Went through some tough times there -- I think we lost five, six in a row. But I think we're really starting to find the identity of our team. I think we've been playing a lot better. [We're] not necessar...

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced they have recalled goaltender Cedric Desjardins from AHL affiliate Syracuse Crunch. The move was expected after the injury to Mathieu Garon Monday night in Pittsburgh. Tom Pyatt scores a goal off his face
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tom Pyatt scored unconventionally against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night. His teammate Keaton Thompson went to shoot the puck and fired it a little bit high, catching Pyatt right on the nose. The puck then took an odd bounce off his nose and went past Marc Andre-Fleury, who was not prepared for the last-second change of direction. Pyatt...
Steven Stamkos scores from a nearly impossible angle
This one-timer goal against the Boston Bruins is just more proof that Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos has one of the best shots in the entire NHL. Stamkos put the shot just between his knee and the post, with the goalie’s angle just a bit off, and it was his league leading 15th goal of the year. Bruins backup goalie Anton Khudobin had nearly no chance to stop this...
Evgeni Malkin scores a goal of the year candidate against Tampa Bay Lightning
After he abused the Tampa Bay Lightning with the goal of the year last season, Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Evgeni Malkin decided that his first game back since suffering a concussion was the right time to do it again. Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, they seem to not have learned their lesson about giving Malkin the puck in space. Lightning defenseman Eric Brewer dove to try and...
Michael Stuart: Lightning Must Keep Calm and Stay the Course
After starting the season with a 6-1-0 record, the Tampa Bay Lightning are 3-10-1 in their last 14 games. For a team that prides itself as one that should be competing for the Southeast Division crown, thatâs simply not good enough. To go even further, that record could be described as embarrassing. With the parity in todayâs National Hockey League, there is no excuse...

Looking for their first win in over a week, the Tampa Bay Lightning came out and put up a good fight against the Pittsburgh Penguins. It’s a question that comes up year after year: Should the NHL enforce a rule to make all players where visors?
You can argue both sides. For starters, the obvious answer is yes and the facts are obvious — especially after Marc Staal took a puck right off his eyelid on Tuesday. When incidents like Staals’ and many others happen, it makes us all wonder what precautions can...
