PLAYERS: Dan Cleary
TEAMS: Detroit Red Wings
A lot of head scratching going on over the Flyers and Dan Cleary reaching an agreement on a contract which will pay Cleary $8.25M over 3 years plus a No-Trade Clause. The Malik Report has reaction to the signing and hockey fans voice their opinion at HFBoards. My reaction?  Cleary has been a warrior for the Red Wings but injuries over the last few years were an issue for him.  He has slowed down and even though only 34 years-old, his body has taken a beating and it is time for the Wings to giving more ice time to the younger players. For fans not familiar with Cleary, watch below a HNIC After Hours segment he did in March of this year. Continue reading "All The Dan Cleary Talk"

The Flyers can fit Cleary, not trade anyone, and be cap compliant before the season even starts

The Philadelphia Flyers can be cap compliant before the season even with Dan Cleary and not trading a soul. When the Flyers invited Dan Cleary to camp and reportedly already agreed upon terms of a contract, many speculated how they could make it all fit under the cap. Afterall, the Flyers are already over $2 million over the upper-limit according to capgeek. Hell, I’ve even been...

So It Appears Dan Cleary Won’t Be a Flyer After All

After days of speculation, the Flyers announced former Detroit Red Wing Daniel Cleary would be attending the Flyers’ training camp, scheduled to begin tomorrow in Philadelphia. Cleary would be attending on a pro-tryout basis, and then signed to a 3 year, $8.75 million dollar deal once Chris Pronger was placed on long-term injury reserve. However, today, Elliotte Friedman reported...

Free agent Cleary nearing deal with Flyers?

With the NHL salary cap getting chopped this season in the wake of a new collective bargaining agreement several proven NHLers remain without a deal. Veteran forward Dan Cleary however is poised to return to the league. An unrestricted free agent the 34-year-old Cleary is weighing his options early this week as NHL training camps get set to open. Although Cleary spent the last...

200 BY 85: Tocchet: Cleary To Flyers

Is Dan Cleary a Philadelphia Flyer? If Flyer insider Rick Tocchet's tweet is true, then the Flyers just got themselves a pro's pro in Cleary. The 34 UFA turned down a three year deal with the Detroit Red Wings before the UFA market on July 5. Once the market opened, the Wings moved swiftly and aggressively and signed UFAs Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss. Thus, eating...

200 BY 85: Flyers Have To Chop To Add Cleary

When the Philadelphia Flyers ink Dan Cleary to his new three year contract, the Flyers will have some chopping to do to their roster. Cleary will play for $2.75 AAV per season, and will reportedly receive a no trade clause. Flyers are $2M over the salary cap. They have 25 contracts right now: 13 F, 10 D, 2 G. Signing Cleary signals the need to trade a contract.— SabresBuzz (@SabresBuzz)...

Eklund: Cleary NOT coming to Philly? Pitkanen done for the year. Hainsey? Whitney?

A few quick hits this afternoon...nice to have news happening again! Dan Cleary looked to be all set in and coming to Philly on a PTO until moments ago when sources began to text me that it appears Ckeary has gotten a better offer and he will not report to Flyers camp tomorrow...this could just be a Cap issue, but I am hearing all is open now. Also... Tough news in Carolina...

Tim Panaccio: Cleary Over Youth? Your Call

There's a lot to like about adding a Dan Cleary to your roster. Veteran experience. A Cup. A "glue guy" as GM Kenny Holland would call him. But here's the rub for Flyers fans as I read the Twitter and internet comments: At age 34, is a three-year deal a year too long? Another young Flyer player won't be on the roster. Personally, I would have preferred...
