Fox Sports:
AJ Allmendinger will be on the pole for the second time in his Sprint Cup career after turning the fastest qualifying lap for Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway.
Allmendinger posted a lap of 175.993 mph in his Penske Racing Dodge to claim the top spot ahead of Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano, who had led the fastest times most of the day.
It was the first pole for Allmendinger since 2010 at Phoenix. He nearly had the pole last month at Bristol but was edged out by Greg Biffle by a thousandth of a second.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. qualified seventh for Hendrick Motorsports, which is trying to an end a 13-race drought and reach milestone win No. 200. Jimmie Johnson qualified 15th after going sideways in Turns 1 and 2.
