PLAYERS: Amir KhanFreddie Roach
After Amir Khan lost two straight fights and all of his championship belts, the British boxer decided his career was in dire need of a reboot. So Khan fired his celebrated trainer, Freddie Roach. He refocused his energy on learning to fight with his head instead of his heart, which he blames for his knockout loss to Danny Garcia. After several weeks with new trainer Virgil Hunter, Khan believes he's making physical and mental improvements. And in California, he can avoid the British tabloids' coverage of his upcoming marriage to Faryal Makhdoom. Khan appeared with Carlos Molina at the historic Los Angeles Sports Arena on Tuesday to promote their Dec. 15 bout. Molina is an unbeaten Southern California native, but Khan is still the star of his shows.
