...AND MY STAFF, THEY COMFORT ME.

Posted January 20, 2013

REBUILDING the staff helps to rebuild the mindset and the culture of the team. That in mind Dennis Allen and Reggie McKenzie made major moves to sharpen the focus of the team's attack.

Already the Raiders have been employing a Zone/Power philosophy since pretty much the time of Tom Cable, but with the addition of Greg Olson, the team is likely to go to the one cut/power run philosophy that worked so well for backs like MJD, Emmitt Smith, and LaDanian Tomlinson. I think it also signals that we intend to draft a power back as depth since RunDMC simply can't give you 16 games. Also a power run game PUTS extra wear and tear on a body.

I'm also glad to see Bobby April on the staff. During his time with the Eagles, the most dynamic weapon he was given to work with was a mercurial KR who was also the team's #1 WR. The year before that, that same KR was playing not to get hurt and ruin his bargaining position. Every other KR weapon offered to April was just a back-up pressed into the job. The Eagles kick return game didn't scare a soul or produce a single score in the last two years.

Oakland will ply the April with options to choose from and armed with Sea Bassand Shane Lechler, the Special Teams unit's increased contributions to field position will be one of the reasons this team goes from 4-12 to...well...Let's just see who the starting QB is and if it's Terrelle Pryor, how he looks in camp.
