5TH QUARTER MAGAZINE:
With all of the attention on Robert Griffin III it’s pretty easy to forget about Andrew Luck, who was the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. While RG3′s electric play has experts talking about Rookie of the Year and fantasy football owners drooling, Luck is leading the Indianapolis Colts on a playoff run.
The Colts won their 4 straight game tonight against their struggling division rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars. During their 4 game winning streak, Luck has completed 90 of 141 passes (63.83%) throwing 3 touchdowns with 2 interceptions and has rushed for 4 touchdowns.
Luck has already helped Indianapolis triple their win total after posting a terrible 2-14 record last season, and although they are second in their division behind the Houston Texans, they are in a perfect position to secure a wild card spot and make the playoffs.
Luck was also faced with the difficult task of replacing Peyton Manning who was the face of the franchise for more than a decade. Manning’s career got off to a rocky start and he led the Colts to a 3-13 season his rookie season, a record Luck has already surpassed. Luck has a long way to go before earning the reputation Manning earned in Indy, but he’s off to a great start.
RG3 certainly looks to be the front-runner to win the Rookie of the Year awards, but while his Washington Redskins are at the bottom of the totem pole with a 3-6 record, Luck and the Colts are in the playoff hunt. Luck will have one of his toughest tests of the season as the Colts travel to New England to face Tom Brady and the Patriots.
BEST OF MAXIM
Not much was expected from the Indianapolis Colts in 2012.
They released future Hall of Fame (and leading MVP candidate) Peyton Manning following a spate of neck injuries and surgeries. Along with him were released several key veterans and fan favorites: MLB Gary Brackett, TE Dallas Clark, RB Joseph Addai, and WR Anthony Gonzalez, among others. The coaching staff and front office...

If the playoffs were to start today, Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts would travel to the Denver Broncos to play Peyton Manning, who through 8 games, has exactly the same amount of passing yards as his replacement Luck, 2404. The Colts are 4-1 in their last 5, since Chuck Pagano had to leave the team to undergo treatment for Leukemia, with that...
The Indianapolis Colts have been at the epicenter of NFL headlines all season long.
First, everyone wanted to know how the team would fare in the Andrew Luck era after seeing the success that Peyton Manning brought. Then, first-year head coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia and after responding with a win against the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 7, the team became the NFL’s...
At halftime, the Jaguars trail the Colts 3 to 17, and the big difference in the game hasn't been in respect to the two teams' quarterbacks.
Blaine Gabbert has played well to this point, as has Andrew Luck. Both quarterbacks have similar numbers, but Andrew Luck has been helped more by the rest of his team than Gabbert has.
It's at this point that I'd like...
It’s something that most of us never imagined saying just two months ago, but if the NFL playoffs started today, the Andrew Luck led Indianapolis Colts would be in it.
With their fifth win in six games, and their fourth straight overall, the Colts all of a sudden find themselves in familiar territory in the playoff hunt. In fact, if the Houston Texans drop their Sunday Night...
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Inspiration one week, domination the next.
The Indianapolis Colts became the latest team to hammer the Jacksonville Jaguars at home, winning 27-10 on Thursday night behind two rushing touchdowns from rookie quarterback Andrew Luck.
Darius Butler returned an interception for a score as the Colts (6-3) won their fourth consecutive game and snapped a three...
Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville JaguarsIndianapolis: The Colts come off a big win last week at home against the Miami Dolphins as Andrew Luck outdueled fellow rookie Ryan Tannehill in a battle of two teams and QBs that have exceeded expectations in 2012. The Colts sit at 5-3 and are now looking at avenging their early season loss to the division rival Jaguars, which they are...
Good as Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III are, look beyond the first-year quarterbacks making a strong first impression and check out other NFL rookies delivering dynamic performances.
The 503 games started by first-year players is the highest total through Week 9 since at least 1991, according to STATS LLC.
And those rookies are producing like never before: STATS says the 10...
Even the greatest quarterbacks can’t overcome bad teams, especially not in their rookie year. It’s something that I have always believed and will continue to believe until forever. Look at Peyton Manning, one of the most prolific passers of our time, and a number one overall draft pick. He came into a team that was legitimately terrible in 1998, and the Colts were capable of...
