Larry Brown Sports:
Washington D.C. may have a pretty exciting sports couple on its hands. It looks like Angela Rypien and Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez might be dating.
Angela, a quarterback for the Lingerie Football League’s Baltimore Charm and the daughter of former Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien, dropped the first hint about a possible relationship when she tweeted on Aug. 31 that she was attending her first Nationals game ever.
My first #MLB game EVER :) Go #Nats@ Nationals Park instagr.am/p/PA1QZBv94x/
— Angela Rypien (@Angela_Rypien) September 1, 2012
Sounds like a perfectly fun time, right? We didn’t think anything of that tweet until Sunday night when Rypien sent out another Nats-related tweet:
Hello @mlb!! Watching the @nationals game.. I have my eyes on someone specific ;) Let’s go #Nats
— Angela Rypien (@Angela_Rypien) September 17, 2012
Hmm, so now we had a smiley face with a wink added to the tweet, and an admission that she was watching someone specific. And of course there was one co...

On his way off the field in the sixth after missing out on his 20th win of the season, Gio Gonzalez tipped his cap and gave a thumbs up to Chipper Jones (who was on third thanks to a walk and then a Freddie Freeman double).

Washington Nationals infielder Danny Espinosa underwent an
MRI this afternoon to determine the extent of his shoulder injury. While he will be out for at least the club’s
next three games, the Nationals could be without Espinosa for the remainder of
the year, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post:
The Nationals are reviewing the results from an MRI of...
A bit over half way through the season, I was covering a game at Nationals Park. Between innings, when the team does their Down on the Farm Report, they teased Christian Garcia’s minor league numbers. I knew of Garcia but didn’t really know his story or his stuff terribly well, so I did some reading and looked at some stats. The numbers almost looked like typos. They were...

Nationals manager Davey Johnson earned his first ejection of the season after arguing an awful call at first base by umpire Marvin Hudson on Saturday.
Braves left fielder Martin Prado was leading off the bottom of the sixth and hit a come-backer to pitcher Edwin Jackson. The ball went off Jackson’s glove, but he recovered and threw to first...
The Washington Nationals seemed to be waiting to exhale ever since mid-September was pegged as the time ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg was going to be shut down. That day came a little earlier than expected following Strasburg's Sept. 7 start and loss to the Marlins. The Nationals had said Strasburg's final start would come on Sept. 12 in New York, but they announced on...
The Nationals farm system is a lot like other farm systems. When teams move from the cellar to the penthouse, the farm system goes through a number of changes. Players either graduate from the farm system to the ML lineup or they are traded to acquire players that become integral parts of the teams turnaround. In the case of the Nationals, they had both at the same time...
There's Davey Johnson in the process of getting ejected for the first time this season on a blown call by first base umpire Marvin Hudson in the sixth, which was immediately followed by a game-tying home run by Jason Heyward. Here's Davey, via Washington Post:
"If I can see it from 150 feet that the throw beats him, and he’s on the
bag and he was out...

great position. We’ve played well all year, and we have two weeks left

"I feel fine about where we're at." (Davey Johnson, via Nats Insider, 9/17/2012)

I can neither confirm nor deny Larry Brown Sports’ gumshoe social media report that Mark Rypien’s lingerie football-playing daughter, Angela Rypien, is dating Gio Gonzalez, but I want to believe it. So, until Reliable Sources or some such proves otherwise, they are hereby the first couple of D.C. sports blogging, destined to have beautiful, Super Bowl MVP/NL Cy Young award-winning...
The AP's daily wrap on the playoff races and what's ahead in the final weeks:
- BRAVES & BROOMS: Chipper Jones & Co. kept things interesting in the NL East, sweeping first-place Washington out of Turner Field and denying Gio Gonzalez his 20th win. Atlanta trails the Nationals by 5 1/2 games with 15 games left.
- TEMPER, TEMPER: Manager Joe Maddon and cleanup hitter...
