Mike Trout had four hits and drove in three runs in Los Angeles' 8-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night but it was not enough to keep the Angels in the playoff chase. The Angels, with a high payroll and high expectations as the season started, were eliminated from the wild-card race after the Oakland Athletics' 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday. The Angels, carrying the fourth-highest payroll in the majors, had signed first baseman Albert Pujols to a 10-year, $240 million deal during the offseason and then added left-hander C.J. Wilson for another $77.5 million. Those aggressive free-agent moves could earn the Angels (89-71) 90 victories but no postseason, even with one additional wild-card spot. Wilson (13-10) went 6 1-3 innings for the victory. He allowed six hits and two runs, striking out seven and walking five. Felix Hernandez (13-9), who did not win a game after Aug. 27 - going 0-4 with a 6.62 ERA - went 5 1-3 innings, allowing a season-hi...

Photo: Even Mike Trout gets hazed

Angels outfielder Torii Hunter posted this picture on Twitter after Sunday's Angels-Rangers doubleheader in Arlington of Mike Trout, the presumptive AL Rookie of the Year, potential AL MVP, and possibly the best baseball player living on Earth...dressed as a stereotypical baby, complete with bonnet, diaper, stuffed animal...and sneakers with red socks, of course. Rookie hazing...

Mike Trout hazed by Angels again, this time dresses as a giant baby (Picture)

The Angels really seem to enjoy screwing with Mike Trout. The 21-year-old is arguably the best player on the team, but a rookie is a rookie. Trout played only 40 games at the MLB level last season, and apparently he didn’t fully pay his hazing dues when the team made him dress in this ridiculous outfit and parade around. As you can see from the photo above that Torii Hunter shared...

Mike Trout Gets Hazed, Dresses Like a Baby

September is when baseball teams carry out their annual rookie hazing rituals and normally I'd be all over it. However, with the Red Sox out of it and my real favorite team, the Tampa Bay Rays, unlikely to make the playoffs it's hard to care about baseball these days.  But when you have a superstar rookie like Mike Trout, one would be remiss to not pay homage to his...

Trout 1st rookie with 30 HRs, 30 steals

Angels center fielder Mike Trout has become the first major league rookie ever with 30 home runs and 40 stolen bases. Trout hit his 30th homer Sunday, a two-out solo shot in the seventh inning at Texas off Yu Darvish. The 21-year-old Trout had a leadoff walk to start the game, then quickly got his 48th stolen base. Only two players in the majors have ever had 30 homers and 50...

Mike Trout dressed as a baby for rookie hazing (Photo)

You would think that Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout for his contributions on the field would be able to get out of some rookie hazing. However, even Trout couldn't get out of Los Angeles rookie hazing. Check out baby Trout: (Courtesy of The Outside Corner)

Is the Angels rookie MVP worthy?

Sorry Miggy, But Mike Trout Deserves AL MVP

In all likelihood, Miguel Cabrera is going to win the AL Triple Crown, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in 45 years. In all likelihood, Miguel Cabrera is going to win the AL MVP, because of the aforementioned feat. This may have been acceptable in 1967, but not in 2012. Mike Trout deserves to win AL MVP in 2012. What Trout has been able to accomplish in his first full year...

Eddie Bane's Hiring Shows Red Sox Are Tweaking New-School Approach to Talent Evaluation

The last time I covered a game at Fenway, after spending some time in the clubhouses I ascended back up to the press box, and upon sitting down in front of my laptop ovheard a conversation between two writers there covering the Yankees. The talk was something along the lines of "How would you have liked to be the scout who drafted Mike Trout?" The second writer replied...

The October 1st, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Trout makes rookie history, Aybar suffers strained quad, Greinke pitches in a misspelled jersey and much more... The Story: Mike Trout is the youngest player to hit 30 homers and the first rookie to have 30 homers and 40+ steals. The Monkey Says: Get used to this whole Trout making...

No help, no more hope for Angels

The Angels did their part. They hoped the Texas Rangers would do theirs. No such luck. The Angels' season came to a screeching halt on a cool night in a half empty ballpark in Seattle. Their final two games will have no meaning, at least in terms of deciding their playoff future this season. They have none. While rookie Mike Trout had another dazzling night at the plate and...

End of Season Post-Mortem: Los Angeles Angels

The votes aren't in yet, but the leader in the clubhouse in the Most Disappointing Team of the Year has to be the Los Angeles Angels. After spending a gazillion dollars, give or take, in the off-season to shock the world by signing Albert Pujols and then adding C.J. Wilson to boot, the Halos had sky high expectations entering the 2012 season, and that was before they promoted...
