After another season of crushed expectations in Anaheim, many felt that the rumored discord between manger Mike Scioscia and general manager Jerry Dipoto would lead to wholesale changes within the organization’s hierarchy. As heard on ESPNLA 710 yesterday, Scioscia revealed they would both be retained for next season after a series of meetings were held to determine where both men stand, relative to the Angels future. “We had some really aggressive meetings these last 10 days, and I met with [Angels owner] Arte [Moreno] and [Angels president] John Carpino and Jerry, and there’s no doubt we’re on the same page,” Scioscia told ESPNLA 710. “There’s no doubt there’s no philosophical differences. We just have to figure out a way to get it done better and more effectively and move our organization ahead. Jerry Dipoto and I, we don’t agree on everything. No GM and manager agree on everything.” Hitting coach Jim Eppard and bench coach Rob Picciolo however, will not return for 2014. Wit...

Pujols suit turns downright comical

Albert Pujols' defamation suit against former Cardinals slugger Jack Clark just went from water-cooler talk to talk-show punchline material. That's what happens when an attorney crafts a letter to another attorney calling Viagra a performance-enhancer, giving a shout-out to Simon and Garfunkel, conjuring the ghost of Jack LaLanne to properly define "juicing," and...

Kole Calhoun: 2014 Fantasy Sleeper

OK, so Trout might be more gifted physically, but Calhoun will turn heads too in 2014.I find it funny that teams think big ticket free agent signings and large payrolls are conducive to success (and yes, I’m aware of the irony that I root for the Red Sox, one of the biggest spenders out there). But as you’ll certainly recall, it was those very free agent signings that sent the...

New Angels hitting coach Don Baylor excited for challenge

Don Baylor has been around the block. Several times. But after two managerial stints and six different stops as a hitting coach, he may have found the place that feels most comfortable almost like coming home. Baylor, hired this week to be the Angels' new hitting coach, already had a job with the Arizona Diamondbacks. But joining the Angels, where he had some of his best...

Jack Clark's lawyer says Pujols uses false name, should take polygraph test

It didn’t take long for legal proceedings between Albert Pujols and Jack Clark to get ugly as an attorney representing Clark accused Pujols of using a false name and challenged the Angels slugger to tale a polygraph test to determine if Pujols is telling the truth when he claims he never used performance-enhancing drugs. Pujols’ attorney deemed the request for a polygraph ...

A LOOGY bites the dust as the Mets cut Robert Carson

Two down and two to go! Yesterday the Mets cut ties with a couple of lefty relievers in Robert Carson and Sean Henn. Originally, the previous line said lousy lefty relievers but it was not fair to use that word to describe Henn in 2013. While he walked the ballpark – 32 BB in 57.2 IP – in Las Vegas, he had an impressive 2.81 ERA in Triple-A and followed that up with a similar...

The problem with a lame duck GM

The Angels have a problem. OK, they have a lot of problems but this problem is a new and potentially fatal one. Like so many of their other issues, this is one they brought upon themselves. Many were glad to see that cooler heads prevailed when Arte Moreno opted to fire neither Mike Scioscia nor Jerry Dipoto. For the sake of stability and letting a front office implement a long...
