ANAHEIM, Calif. Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton, whose offensive struggles have been a source of concern for the team this season, was a late scratch Monday night because of an injury to his right ankle. Manager Mike Scioscia said Hamiltons ankle "locked up" on him at some point after Sundays game against the Oakland As. In a tweet, the Angels called it a "stiff right ankle." Hamilton is hitting .223 but has just one hit in his previous 23 at-bats and is batting .222 in July. Scioscia did not get specific about how the injury occurred, saying, "He wasnt playing pickup basketball. He was walking around the house." He added, "Theres no question he needs the night off." Scioscia, however, left open the possibility that Hamilton might be available at some point against the Minnesota Twins, who opened a three-game series at Angel Stadium.
