SportzEdge.com posted an article about Angels pitcher, Robert Coello, who threw a forkball in the top of the ninth inning against the Chicago White Sox on May 16.

No one has seen the forkball since the 1920s! Coello's unusual pitch is now called, the "WTF pitch."

In the video, Angels catcher, Chris Iannetta, is crossed up by the mystery pitch. I could only imagine what White Sox shortstop, Alexei Ramirez, was thinking when Coello delivered the ball to the plate.

The righty has struck out 21 batters in almost 15 innings of work. When the relief pitcher is on the mound, everyone's eyes must be glued to their televisions.

  • wow that long ago?
  • Wikipedia begs to differ: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forkball

I was a big 1960 Pirates fan and recalled quite well that Roy Face relied heavily on the forkball. So now I can cancel this Yardbarker account cuz apparently they don't check no facts around this place.
  • You are absolutely right as I used to watch a lot of Mets Pirates games as a kid, and Ralph Kiner I am sure can verify from a professional angle that Leroy Face (called himself Roy) did pitch a forkball. I am sure there are copies of it in the Mets film archives too.
  • absolutely, today's kids are lost on history
