The countdown in Philadelphia began long ago. One month until pitchers and catchers report. … One week until pitchers and catchers report. … Two days until pitchers and catchers report.

And now the countdown for Opening Day is on.

You certainly can not blame Philadelphia sports fans for being excited about a baseball season that promises to feature one of the greatest pitching staffs baseball has seen since the late-90s and early 2000s Braves rolled out guys by the name of Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine.

But with all of the focus surrounding Cliff lee, Roy Halladay and co. it is fair to ask: are the Flyers being overlooked in the City of Brotherly Love?

As much as the city is buzzing over the Phillies returning, there hasn’t been a great deal of focus put on the Flyers who happen to own the Eastern Conference’s best record at 39-15-5. There isn’t even much of a race for the Eastern Conference’s top spot as the Flyers lead over the second-place Lightning is eight points. The Flyers are as good on the road (20-7-3) as they are at home (19-8-2) and only the Vancouver Canucks have more points (85 to the Flyers’ 83).

  • No lack of support in Philly, Games are sold out every night but its hard to get too into it until the playoffs start after they're stellar run from the Rangers final game on. You cant' drive around Philly without seeing signs, flags, busses reading GO FLYERS and so on Its only going to get worse as the more interesting games come about. This team seems to hit a new gear when they have to and should be a joy to watch into early June.
