While NFL teams will sometimes use military and battle metaphors to describe their trade, few of their cheerleading squads turn to such lingo. One member of the Arizona Cardinals’ cheerleaders, however, knows firsthand what being disciplined and battle-tested really looks like. Megan Welter has joined the Cardinals’ cheerleading squad at 28 years old, but what is perhaps most interesting about the cheerleader’s try at the team is not how long it took her to join the squad, but rather the path that led her there. Welter was involved in ballet and dance from her youth all the way into college, but when she graduated in 2007, she went looking for a higher calling. She spent the last few years about as far away from dance or cheerleading that someone could get, instead serving as a platoon leader in Iraq with the U.S. Army. “The war was going on at the time when I graduated college,” she told ABC15. “I wanted to take a job that was going to be meaningful, so I decided to join the Army.”...

PETA Calls The FEDS on Darnell Dockett For Having a Pet Tiger

I am little surprised this didn’t happen sooner. You can’t be buying Pet Tigers, trying to get monkeys and think no one will notice. Not that Darnell Dockett was trying to hide it, but PETA has sent out this press release. PETA has just sent letters to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the Arizona Game and Fish Department urging them to investigate Arizona Cardinals...

Cardinals cheerleader also Iraq vet

For one Arizona Cardinals cheerleader, hearing the national anthem and seeing the American flag before games have a special meaning. It wasn't easy for Megan Welter to go from Iraq veteran to NFL cheerleader, but the journey, she said, was worth it. "Our country has given us so many freedoms," Welter told ABC15 . "To be a part of fighting for that and maintaining...

Palmer would love to follow in Warner's footsteps

GLENDALE, Ariz. Kurt Warners name is a heavy burden that drags every Cardinals quarterback down. Talent was a major issue in each of the subsequent failures, but so was the impossibly high standard Warner set in his final two seasons here capped by a five-touchdown, four-incompletion performance in his last game at University of Phoenix Stadium -- a 51-45 overtime playoff win over...

Darnell Docket's problem: Big rumps

On a day that racial tension and rumors of a supposed bounty swamped the football Twitter world, Darnell Dockett of the Arizona Cardinals came to the rescue and slipped in his own version of comedic therapy to his followers. The running back is infamous for his outspoken Tweets -- some of which have gotten him in trouble in the past -- and today was no different. Here is Dockett...

Arizona Cardinals Fans and the Big AZ Beer Garden

The recent years have been frustrating ones for the fans of the Arizona Cardinals. After Kurt Warner retired it has been one frustrating season after another. Heck, it's darn near enough to drive a fan to drink, but as bad as the team has played that would have resulted in a lot of angry drunks. The product on the field appears to be changing though. With the arrival of new...

Tweet Of The Week: Jay Feely

Tweet of the week is back after a one-week absence. This week’s tweet comes from Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely. The 37-year-old believes he is getting “old,” and for good reason. He had this to say: Feely is older than four of the Cardinals’ coaches. -Malamud

Cardinals' defensive line displaying versatility

GLENDALE, Ariz. Early in training camp, the Cardinals defensive line has shown more looks than your average runway model. One nickel package on Monday included four linemen with John Abraham lined up on the right side standing up, Calais Campbell inside of him, Frostee Rucker to his left and Matt Shaughnessy as left end. At other times, the Cards are in their base set with Campbell...

(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By BOB BAUM AP Sports Writer The shout comes from the crowd, ''Go Honey Badger.'' It's a nickname Tyrann Mathieu wanted to leave behind, a reminder of the sorry premature end to his college career as he looks to make it in the NFL.
