The 6th Sens:
Cory Conacher has been a name prospect the last year or so, but I can't say I've caught enough Tampa, Norfolk or Syracuse games to give an informed take on his game. So I turned to John Fontana (@Johnny_Fonts) who writes at SBN's Tampa Bay Lighting blog Raw Charge to answer a few questions fans in Ottawa may have. Oh and if you're looking for a more in-depth and detailed scouting report, John has one of those too right here.
1. How surprised were you to see Conacher in the trade Wednesday?
"Gobsmacked" is the way I described how I felt, speaking to friends and publicly on Twitter, regarding the whole deal. "Surprised" just doesn't cut it. Most (if not all) Tampa Bay Lightning fans never saw this coming, no one expected it. No one thought Conacher would be dangled as a trade chip, let alone moved. That goes doubly for me.
2. What kind of player is Ottawa getting?
Besides short? A spark plug. Think of Tampa Bay's Martin St Lo...

The Ottawa Senators did what I've recommended for the past few weeks now, selling high on goaltender Ben Bishop. The return on their investment -- initially, a second-round pick tendered to St. Louis -- came in the exchange of rookie forward Cory Conacher, and a fourth-round pick.
Ottawa was dealing from a position of luxury like...
Goalie Ben Bishop is coming to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Lightning traded for the fourth-year netminder Wednesday, sending forward Cory Conacher and a fourth-round pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft to the Ottawa Senators, the team announced.
Bishop, selected by the St. Louis Blues in the third round 85th overall in the 2005 draft, played in 13 games with the Senators...
The Ottawa Senators traded goaltender Ben Bishop to the Tampa Bay Lightning for rookie forward Cory Conacher and a fourth-round draft pick.
The 23-year-old Conacher has nine goals and 15 assists in 35 games this season for the Lightning
Ottawa has struggled to score goals due to injuries to Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson and are 24th in the league averaging 2.42 goals per game...
The Tampa Bay Lightning made a splash on trade deadline day by sending rookie forward Cory Conacher and a fourth round pick in 2013 to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for goaltender Ben Bishop. The deal, which addresses a need for each club involved, has since spawned a great deal of emotion, discussion and analysis from all corners of the hockey world.
On what turned out to...
Ottawa Senators goaltender Ben Bishop was rumored to be on the block today thanks to the impending return of starter Craig Anderson. Bishop's outstanding play this season (8-5-0 with a .922 SV% and a 2.45 GAA) has really inflated his trade value well over what the Senators had to give up to the Blues last year to get him.
This is going to hurt for Blues fans, as Bishop got...

With yesterday's NHL Trade Deadline behind us, @creecher1200 and I jumped into the studio to record our thoughts on the Senators and the organization's Cory Conacher acquisition on the latest episode of The 6th Sens Podcast.
Joining us on the pod was AJ Jakubec. I have no idea why you wouldn't be following...

The Ottawa Senators stayed moderately quiet during the trade deadline. The Buffalo Sabres, not so much.
Two organizations, two extremely different short and long-term plans. Bryan Murray's lone move was to send G Ben Bishop to Tampa Bay in exchange for Cory Conacher and a fourth-round draft-pick. In a perfect world, Ottawa likely...
After making the trade that sent Cory Conacher to Ottawa and brought Ben Bishop to Tampa, Lightning general manger Steve Yzerman took a lot of criticism from all corners of the hockey world; the early returns indicate that said criticism is unwarranted. Ben Bishop and the Lightning skated into Raleigh, North Carolina and walked out with a 5-0 victory and two very important points...
LOVE: There's an old saying in sports about speed being the great equalizer. In an otherwise sloppy game last night in Buffalo, I thought the trio of Mika Zibanejad, Jakob Silfverberg, and Cory Conacher had a strong night. The "Calder Line" was on ice for both goals, creating scoring opportunities for both Marc Methot and Eric Gryba. The Methot goal was particularly...
The Ottawa Senators were buyers at the trade deadline, dealing from strength to bolster a rotation of forwards still thin due to injuries.
The Buffalo Sabres were sellers, continuing the early stages of what appears to be a rebuilding phase.
The Northeast Division rivals meet Friday night in Buffalo, where the Senators will get their first look at newly acquired rookie Cory Conacher...
