The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed kicker Connor Barth to a four-year contract Thursday. The team announced the deal in a statement but didn’t disclose financial terms. However, ESPN reported that Barth, who was designated the team’s franchise player in the offseason, will receive $13.2 million, with $4 million guaranteed. "For the Bucs organization, (general manager) Mark Dominik, Coach (Greg) Schiano and everyone to believe in me, to know that I'll be their kicker for the next four years, is awesome," Barth said in a statement. "It's just an amazing opportunity and I want to continue to perform like I have and live up to their expectations." The 25-year-old Barth made 26 of 28 field goal attempts last season, setting a team accuracy record of 92.9 percent, and has converted 73 of 87 in his four-year career. He came to the Buccaneers in 2009 as a free agent after one season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Barth Scores 4 Year Deal WIth Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Connor Barth remembers sitting in his car in the parking lot outside the Miami Dolphins’ facility in the summer of 2009, trying to decide if his NFL dream was still worth pursuing. “I didn’t even know if I wanted to play anymore because I was just down on myself,” he said.  “But I kept fighting and I ended up here and just kicked away.  I’m really excited to be where...

Former UCLA lineman Price hospitalized

I remember interviewing then-UCLA defensive lineman Brian Price before the 2010 NFL draft, where he was taken in the second round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I remember thinking that this kid from the mean streets of Los Angeles had everything it took to succeed in the NFL -- talent, work ethic and great intangibles. What Price hasn't had through his NFL career is good luck...

LeGarrette Blount fights to keep starting job with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last month, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved back into the first-round of the NFL Draft in order to select RB Doug Martin. LeGarrette Blount has been the lead back in Tampa for most of the last two seasons and he’s prepared for...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers extend K Connor Barth

I don’t think I’ve ever done a grade for a kicker signing, but Barth is one of the best in the league. In 4 seasons, he’s nailed 73 of 87 field goals, including 24 of 26 last year and is perfect on 95 extra point attempts. He also handles all the kickoffs I normally don’t [...]

Is Professional Football and Other Sports- A waste of Time, Money and Energy?

I stumbled across a posting this afternoon from the first week of May from a financial advice site, getrichslowly.com. The article struck a chord with me as the author, Robert Brokamp, is obviously a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, or at least grew up watching the Buccaneers in the same era as I did. Mr. Brokamp is a Certified Financial Planner and penned an article on whether or not professional...
