Found June 14, 2013 on Atlanta Bullpen:
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy struggled during his final rehab start for the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves, at Rochester.  Beachy gave up three runs in three innings, while walking four and striking out four.  He also gave up a solo homer. Beachy struggled with his control, throwing only 38 strikes in 69 pitches.  He was particularly wild in the first two innings, needing 53 pitches. The Braves have targeted next Tuesday’s June 18 split doubleheader game against the Mets, as Beachy’s return to the starting rotation.  The last major league game that Beachy pitched, was June 16, 2012 against the Baltimore Orioles at Turner Field, a 5-0 loss.  He had Tommy John surgery two days later and started the long rehab process. Beachy’s return will create a logjam in the Braves starting rotation.  They will have six starting pitchers and only five slots.  Braves GM Frank Wren didn’t give any hints about what move the Braves will make, when talking to the Atlanta Journ...

Braves delay Beachy's return due to tenderness in elbow

ATLANTA -- The Braves' plan for Brandon Beachy's return has hit a snag. Citing tenderness in Beachy's elbow after Thursday's start for Triple-A Gwinnett, general manager Frank Wren announced the right-hander will not start in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets. It was slated to be Beachy's first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery on June 21, 2012...

Beachy underwhelms in final scheduled rehab start

Exempting the friendly onlookers at his past five minor league rehab starts and the spring training visitors who perhaps caught a glimpse of the right-hander down at Walt Disney's Orlando resort, the last time Atlanta Braves fans watched Brandon Beachy throw a baseball was 362 days ago. In an eventual 5-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, Beachy made it through 12 batters without...

Braves plan for Beachy to make 2013 debut Tuesday

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says ''barring any setbacks'' Brandon Beachy will make his first start of the season during Tuesday's day-night doubleheader against the Mets. Recovering from elbow ligament-replacement surgery in June last year, Beachy gave up three runs - two earned - three hits and four walks in three innings Thursday for Triple-A Gwinnett at...

Atlanta Braves News: Questions Arise for Division Leader

The Atlanta Braves finished off a string of six consecutive series without a day off on Wednesday, getting swept by the 32-34 San Diego Padres to end this set of games with an 11-9 record. Although this record—which included a five game winning streak—may not be very impressive, the team has been able to maintain a comfortable lead in the NL East, as they currently hold a 5.5...

Braves' Beachy scheduled Tuesday return being held off

Right when Braves Country was embracing their handsome ace to return to the rotation from Tommy John surgery, everyone in the south gasped when news came across the wire Friday evening that Brandon Beachy was scratched  from his highly-anticipated start in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets because of elbow tenderness. According to Carroll Rogers of the Atlanta...

Evan Gattis on Intentional Talk

Your browser does not support iframes. A few people have asked me what I think about his interview, and I don't have the words. He's an odd one, that's for sure. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) I do think it's cute that he gave his girlfriend a little shoutout, and while I'm sure some girlfriends would take offense at the context, surely she understands...

Braves fair poorly in SoCal, head home to face Giants

After going 2-5 against the Dodgers and Padres on their latest road trip, you can’t blame the Braves for wanting to get back home before facing another California team. Especially when their next match-up comes against the reigning World Champion Giants who are third in the National League West with a 33-31 record. The Braves enter the series with a record of 39-27 and a 6-game...

Chipper Jones lists Atlanta mansion

Retired Braves third baseman Chipper Jones earned a cool $168,000,000 in his 19-year playing career. With his days of peppering the gaps in Turner Field over, Jones no longer needs his 23,504 square-foot Roswell, Georgia mansion (as if he ever needed it). The home of a guy named Larry who collected 2,627 career hits sports seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, three half bathrooms...

Three Cuts: Bumgarner stifles Braves, Beachy stalled; more

ATLANTA -- Taking three cuts after the Braves' 6-0 loss to the Giants on Friday night at Turner Field. 1. The Braves had no answer for Bumgarner -- yet again There used to be time Atlanta had its way against Madison Bumgarner, tagging him for a 4.30 ERA in his first four starts with four home runs -- the third-most of any team vs. the All-Star in the last three years -- and a...

Brandon Beach scratched from Tuesday start versus Mets

credit: getty images Brandon Beachy was to start Tuesday nights game against the New York Mets. That plan has been scratched after the right hander experienced soreness in his elbow following his Thursday outing for Triple-A Gwinnett. It is the first time Beachy has experienced a setback since having reconstructive elbow surgery last season. “We had hoped he could make this start...

Bumgarner gem illustrates Braves' lefty paradox

ATLANTA -- When Madison Bumgarner stares down Braves hitters from 60 feet, six inches away, location has meant everything and nothing this season: everything in terms of pitch location; nothing in terms of venue. The 23-year-old rising star toyed with Atlanta's hitters for the second consecutive time Friday, painting corners, throwing strikes and delivering an arsenal of deceptive...

Catching Up with the Rome Braves

While the Braves’ farm system doesn’t rank highly among evaluators, there are certain patches of talent scattered throughout the organization. One cluster resides in Rome. 2012 first-round pick Lucas Sims, Jose Peraza, Carlos Franco, and a few other interesting prospects make up a team that is currently 36-29. They headed to Lexington for a three-game series, so I headed to Lexington...
