Have you ever wondered why UFC fighters are primarily the only mixed martial artists getting popped for taking performance-enhancing substances, while Bellator appears to have the squeakiest clean athletes on the planet? Well, reigning Bellator welterweight champ Ben Askren (pictured) offers up a very simple explanation for that. Bellator hardly ever drug tests. “Just read the article on why Bellator fighters don’t fail drug tests,” Askren tweeted Sunday. “Hard to fail a test when you don’t take it. Only been tested once! “Don’t really care that we aren’t tested bc cheaters will cheat no matter what! Just thought the articles was really silly.” Askren is unbeaten in his eight bouts under Bellator’s banner en route to capturing the crown. He didn’t recall which athletic commission requested a urinalysis from him. The 28-year-old admitted that the responsibility of conducting drug exams fall on each state’s governing body. On the flip side, Askren acknowledged many of Bellator’s shows take place on Indian reservations which can sidestep athletic commissions.
