NYR Stu Bickel clears waivers. Will play for CT today.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) March 24, 2013
...i know Bickel struggled mightily this season, but I'm happy to see he cleared. He's still fairly young and as we've seen this year, toughness is an important part of any line-up. And if you don't remember, he was actually pretty good for the Rangers last season.
...hopefully he can work on his game in Hartford, regain some confidence and turn some heads in camp next season.
...could you imagine a defensive pairing of McIlrath and Bickel in Hartford? That opponent better be ready to throw down.

As expected, Stu Bickel cleared waivers and will be sent to the Connecticut Whale in the AHL for tonight’s game. Bickel was not happy with the way he was treated, as Andrew Gross has some interesting quotes:
“It is what it is,” Bickel said. “It’s been tough for me to get an opportunity to play any minutes on the backend to develop some confidence.”
“I came up last...
Update: Per Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers have placed Stu Bickel on waivers. If/when he clears, the Rangers will have cleared $1.45 million in cap space in waiving Bickel and Halpern.
Original Post: Per Larry Brooks, the Montreal Canadiens have claimed Jeff Halpern off waivers from the Rangers. Halpern was waived yesterday to make room for Arron Asham’s return to the lineup. Losing...

In case you missed it, the Rangers re-signed Mats Zuccarello, who will likely join the club within the week. Zuccarello will bring some stability and scoring to the bottom-six, something that is desperately needed. The addition of Zuccarello will lead to some lineup changes. When all the pieces fall into place, the odd-man out is not who you might think it...
The Rangers have recalled center Kris Newbury from the Connecticut Whale. This is Newbury’s second stint with the Rangers this year. In his first call up, Newbury stayed for just one game, and finished with 7 PIMs. Newbury showed some great chemistry with Chris Kreider, putting together an impressive line of 1-8-9 while Kreider was with the Whale.
Newbury replaces the departed...
Per several reports, the Rangers have re-signed forward Mats Zuccarello to a one-year contract through the end of the season. Zuccarello will be given a one-way deal, and the organization will reevaluate Zuccarello at the end of the season. The Hobbit adds much-needed scoring depth to the bottom-six, and will hopefully jump-start the third line, which is in desperate need of scoring...
Ranger fans tend to be a very opinionated bunch and this Blue Shirts roster offers them plenty of targets to express their diverse set of opinions upon. But even on a roster that boasts expensive and underachieving forwards Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik, no player attracts a wider array of assessments than D Michael Del [...]
from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,
The center position has become a black hole for the Rangers that is threatening to swallow the team alive.
And no one, no one, has fallen deeper into that abyss than Brad Richards, who hasn’t come close to resembling the player he always has been and must be in order for the Blueshirts to salvage something from this disappointing...

The Rangers are going for the series sweep tonight against Washington, as the Caps come to town for their third and final matchup. The Rangers have taken each of the first two games by scores of 2-1 and 4-1, and need to get back on track after a letdown game against the lowly Florida Panthers.
On the ice, the Caps still play the 1-2-2 forecheck, but...
The New York Rangers have recalled forward Kris Newbury from Connecticut of the AHL after losing veteran center Jeff Halpern on waivers to the Montreal Canadiens.
The 31-year-old Newbury has one assist and 66 penalty minutes in 19 regular-season games over three seasons for New York. His lone appearance this season with the Rangers was Jan. 24 at Philadelphia.
Newbury has four...
#NYR hit the ice for morning practice before heading to Philly...J.T. Miller, Rick Nash, & Anton Stralman are not practicing today
— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) March 25, 2013
Reports from practice were that Miller was getting treatment on his injured wrist while Nash and Stralman were given maintenance days.
...i hope this maintenance day for Nash isn't the...
With Halpern going to the Canadiens and Bickel going to the Connecticut Whale, forward additions were inevitable. It appears that the long-rumored reunion with Mats Zuccarello will be one of them.
According to Aftonbladet, Zuccarello and the Rangers have agreed on a contract. The article quotes Zuccarello's Swedish agent, Erik Ryman, as saying that the 25-year-old Norwegian...
The Montreal Canadiens have claimed center Jeff Halpern off waivers from the New York Rangers.
A 36-year-old checking forward who is strong on faceoffs, Halpern had one assist and was minus-5 in 30 games for New York this season.
He is earning a pro-rated $700,000 this season and can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
This will be his second stint in Montreal. The...
In the game of hockey you never want to get down early. Unfortunately for the Rangers, they're making a habit out of it this season as they've now given up the first goal in 20 of their 31 games.
And once they're down, they haven't shown a great deal of resiliency as they were only able to comeback and win seven of those 20 games.
Some of the players addressed...
The Rangers fell tonight to the Washington Capitals 3-2 in a shootout. For a box score click here.
Not down on the Rangers' effort tonight despite the shootout loss and considering how things were going 10 minutes into the game. Fans have to put this game in their back pocket and move on to Tuesday's game against Philly.
Another strong showing by...
After watching the hit Rick Nash laid on Tomas Kopecky I have a few quick thoughts on the situation. 1) When watching the hit in slow motion it looks as though Nash got caught up on something. Instead of allowing himself to fall on the ice Nash decided to jump. It doesn’t make the [...]
