Forward Viktor Stalberg will not play in Game 1 of the Chicago Blackhawks' second-round playoff series against the Detroit Red Wings. Coach Joel Quenneville says it's a ''coach's decision'' and Stalberg could get back on the ice at any point in the series. He says he has talked to Stalberg about the decision to bench him for Wednesday night's series opener. Stalberg, one of the fastest skaters on the team, has been working outside of the top four lines in practice, so the move was not a complete surprise. But Stalberg had nine goals and 14 assists in 47 games this season, then had a big assist and a plus-2 rating while playing all five games in the first round against Minnesota.

Chicago Blackhawks Stalberg benched for game one

Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville announced after the team’s morning skate that forward Viktor Stalberg will not play game one versus the Detroit Red Wings.  While Quenneville did not disclose any information on his decision, Chicago Tribune’s Chris Kuc tweeted that Stalberg questioned his role with the team. If this is true, the benching is warranted and could...

The Chicago Blackhawks Are The Worst Team In The NHL

Being of stout mind and spirit, (and a native of the Detroit area/Michigan in general), we've all come to know and love that the Red Wings are, arguably, the best team in the NHL. Coming up tomorrow is the start of their Semi-final series against the Chicago Blackhawks. With so much hype surrounding the performance they had in the regular season, no one's taken a minute to...

Great Arturo: Blackhawks in 5

Although most hockey pundits have already predicted the outcome of the playoff matchup between the Red Wings and Blackhawks, there's one maven of the frozen pond who hasn't checked in with their "prophecy." Thats because I had to make the arduous task of traveling to his mountaintop retreat to seek his prognostication. After many days of climbing and climbing...

Blackhawks Dominate Game One, Beat Red Wings 4-1

Patrick Sharp posted three points and Corey Crawford was strong once again as the Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead in their second round series against the Detroit Red Wings in Chicago on Wednesday night. Blackhawks expect Wings to be better in Game 2

While the Detroit Red Wings took a much-needed day off Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks worked on getting even better before Game 2. That's a scary thought for the Wings, who were badly outplayed in Game 1 after the first period. But the Blackhawks, who have every right to feel confident after dispatching the Minnesota Wild in five games and winning the Presidents Trophy with...

Blackhawks Play Best Game Of The Postseason

from Scott Powers of ESPNChicago, The Blackhawks’ play put Quenneville in a better mood in his postgame news conference. He was often frustrated even after wins in the first round. “Much better from our prior series,” Quenneville said. “What we’re talking about in our team game was in place. Had some pace, had some speed, zone time. I thought everybody contributed...

Blackhawks beat Red Wings 4-1 in series opener

Two role players each came up with a big goal. The stars had a handful of key plays. The goalie made all the stops. Even gruff coach Joel Quenneville had to like this one. Johnny Oduya and Marcus Kruger scored in the third period, Corey Crawford made 20 saves and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 in the opener of their second-round playoff series Wednesday night...

Brent Seabrook makes an amazing play to keep puck out of the net

Late in the third period the Detroit Red Wings were making a desperate late game push to try and tie the game with the Chicago Blackhawks.  Down 3-1 they had their work cut out for them and appeared to cut the lead to one with this shot here by Red Wings forward Damien Brunner.  It appeared that the puck crossed the goal line after it went off the crossbar but Blackhawks defenseman...

NHL Playoff Observations -- Round Two Wednesday

Just a few things that caught my eye: Patrick Sharp is 31-3 this season. Yes, the Hawks have only lost three times with him in the lineup. Wow. Moths to a light -- the Wings were puck focused all night long. That will change next game ... might not change the outcome by much, though. Justin Abdelkader got in Dave Bolland's face at the mid-point of the...
