Found July 10, 2013 on FF Locker Room:
Right-handed pitcher Alex Wilson was injured during Monday’s game and was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an injury to his right thumb. The time-table has not been set for his return. Taking his spot will be right handed Brandon Workman whose contract was purchased from their Triple-A Pawtucket minor league affiliate. Workman has dominated this year, pitching over 100 innings while keeping a 3.21 earned run average while striking out 108 batters. He looks to get work out of the pen in Wilson’s absence. In other moves Boston also optioned right-handed pitcher Jose De La Torre to Pawtucket and recalled outfielder Jackie Bradley.     The post Boston Red Sox Place Alex Wilson On Disabled List, Other News appeared first on FFLockerRoom | Fantasy Sports Advice | Sports News | Sports Talk |.

Your Morning Dump... where Doubront shines & Ortiz makes history

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Doubront had one of his best starts of the season as he only allowed five hits and two walks while holding the Mariners to only one run through seven innings. The lefty mixed up his pitches well, and used four...

Andrew Miller To Have Season-Ending Surgery: What Now For the Red Sox?

Well this isn’t good. During Saturday’s game against the Angels, Red Sox left-handed reliever Andrew Miller was pulled with an injured left foot, unable to walk off without assistance. Today, news has come down that Miller had sustained significant damage to the ligament in his foot, and would have season-ending surgery. Make no mistake; while Miller may not be a big-name star...

Boston Red Sox Recall Pedro Beato And Steven Wright

The Boston Red Sox have recalled right-handed reliever Pedro Beato and knuckle ball right-handed reliever Steven Wright from their Triple-A Pawtucket farm club. To make room on the roster, the Red Sox have optioned right-handed starters Alfredo Aceves and Allen Webster to the same minor league affiliate. Look for Beato and Wright to work the middle innings with Wright having an outside...

Red Sox add to bullpen, call up Wright, Beato

The Boston Red Sox added needed depth to its bullpen calling up right-handers Steven Wright and Pedro Beato. The Red Sox made the moves Wednesday before facing the Seattle Mariners. Boston optioned starter Allen Webster and reliever Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket to clear roster spots. The decision to send out Webster leaves the Red Sox needing a starter for Sunday's...

Recap: Daniel Nava comes through in extra innings as the Sox top Seattle

The Red Sox won the series finale in Seattle today, 8-7, as Daniel Nava hit a two-out single to drive in Jackie Bradley, Jr. in the 10th inning.  Nava was an unlikely hero (and not just because the usual "he was signed for $1" reason). Heading into the at bat, Nava was 0-for-5, and to top it off, with first base open and Bradley on second, Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen...

Jonny Gomes More than Just a Body to Fill the Roster

I can admit it: I was wrong about Jonny Gomes. After being critical of the Red Sox signing the outfielder in the offseason, he has proven me wrong by playing a big role for the first place team. Last week he hit his second walk off home run, and his third walk off hit of the season. I did say he was just a reliable body the Sox signed, but he has played in 63 games and has delivered...

Red Sox Face Questions in Bullpen, Team Could Become Active As Trade Deadline Nears (Video)

Just when it seemed like the Red Sox were finally out of the woods when it came to reliever questions, a dark cloud settled back over the bullpen. Reliever Andrew Miller will undergo a season-ending foot surgery to repair ligament damage in his left foot, leaving Boston with Craig Breslow as the only left-handed reliever on the roster. Sox general manager Ben Cherington talked with...

In Depth With Jarrod Saltalamacchia

Jarrod Saltalamacchia has come a long way behind the plate. “Salty” isn’t among the elite at his position, but he’s developed into a solid defensive catcher. He is certainly among the most cerebral. Once looked at as an offense-first backstop, he is playing a key role in the success of a Boston Red Sox pitching staff that is exceeding expectations. Originally a first-round...

David Ortiz sets career hit record by a DH

Last night Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz passed Harold Baines for the number one spot in all-time hits for a designated hitter. Ortiz hit his 1,689th hit against the Seattle Mariners yesterday. The American League instituted the DH spot in 1973 and now Ortiz is at the top of the mountain for designated hitters. The milestone happened in the second inning when Big Papi hit a...

Video: Lester, Red Sox Bullpen Roughed Up in 11-4 to Mariners

Jon Lester was roughed for five runs and the Boston Red Sox bullpen allowed another six in an 11-4 to the Seattle Mariners on Monday night at Safeco Field in Seattle, WA. Your browser does not support iframes. PC/MOBILE/TABLET LINK (full game recap) For more slices of Red Sox goodness, head over to the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, CSN New England...

Red Sox 11, Mariners 4

David Ortiz doubled in his first at-bat to become baseball's all-time leader in hits as a designated hitter and hit a two-run homer an inning later, leading the Boston Red Sox to an 11-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night. Ortiz entered the night tied with Harold Baines for the most hits as a DH and it took just one at-bat to claim the record. Ortiz doubled to...

Red Sox Scratch, Claw and Knuckle Way to Complete Team Victory Over Mariners

The Red Sox scratched, clawed and knuckled their way to a 10-inning win over the Mariners on Thursday. The Mariners jumped on Ryan Dempster early and often. They built a 5-1 lead through three innings and held a 7-4 lead after four innings. The Red Sox kept battling, though, and the end result was a textbook team victory. The Red Sox have shown a flair for the dramatic this season...

2013 Fantasy Baseball Rookie Report, Week 15: Iglesias, Arcia, Green

Lost somehow amid Puig-mania is the superb first half Boston’s Jose Iglesias is having. Take that and shove it, East coast bias truthers! In 166 plate appearances this season Iglesias has put up a .387/.442/.497 line with the OBP boosted by five hit-by-pitches. His OBP against lefties and righties is above .400, as well as in each completed month of the season so far. Now owned...

Red Sox Recap: Sox survive Seattle slugfest

The Guru Contributing Writer So much for Seattle's Safeco Field being a "pitchers park". The Red Sox and Mariners combined for 28 hits, 19 runs and six home runs as the Red Sox pulled out the 11-8 win. David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino and Jackie Bradley Jr all went deep for the Red Sox. Check out JBJ's home run that proved to be...

Game 93: Red Sox at Mariners - Sleepless (while the Sox are) in Seattle

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer If you have been staying up the past several games watch the Red Sox play on the West Coast, then kudos to you. Not only have the nights been long, but the games haven’t been great, especially if you’re a Sox fan watching your team get off to a 2-3 start to midway through this 10-game trip. Last night was much better, as the Boston Red Sox...
