John Idzik has heard the calls of Gang Green Nation — Braylon Edwards will be suiting up for the Jets during training camp after signing a one-year deal with the team according to a source. Edwards will provide much-needed experience for a largely unproven receiving corps with subpar talent. The veteran wide receiver was brought back to New York midseason last year after having been with the Jets in 2009 and 2010 and is generally popular with fans. Edwards 30 has not been able to replicate the success he had with the Jets particularly in 2010 since then. Edwards has had his troubles in New York. While on probation for a previous charge Edwards was charged with driving under the influence in Manhattan in September of 2010 as a member of the Jets. Edwards ultimately pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $50000 by the league. Meanwhile the Jets’ top target Santonio Holmes was placed on the PUP list Tuesday and won’t be ready to practice at the beginning of training camp. That doesn’t prohibit Holmes from coming off the list at any point but he wouldn’t make any guarantees about when he would be ready. That could leave the already weak depth chart even weaker with Jeremy Kerley the No. 1 option. Before signing Edwards who has a rapport with Mark Sanchez the Jets were looking at Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates beyond Holmes and Kerley for Marty Mornhinweg’s new offense that is based on precision and possession. Jets fans have been clamoring for a reunion with Edwards throughout the offseason as had one of his former teammates Kellen Winslow Jr. The new Jets tight end tweeted Monday “#BringBraylonBack.” On Wednesday Winslow followed up with “#BRAYLONISBACK #JETS.” Winslow and Edwards played together in Cleveland.
