This just in:

Now here's Bruce Garrioch to pour some salt to Jared's wound:
Jared Cowen need surgery on his leg: Does he get his NHL or AHL salary while he is out? AHL folks.

Et pour les Francophones:
Jared Cowen, qui est blessé au "bas du corps" depuis quelques semaines, subira une intervention chirurgicale dans les prochains jours. #Sens

Cowen, who has been out of actionfor the past 8 Binghamton games, will miss some undisclosed amount of time with this lower body injury that Don Brennan indicated was a hip flexor issue. In an interview with the Team 1200, Luke Richardson was less specific about the diagnosis.
Given the impasse that the NHL and NHLPA are seemingly having with their negotiations, the concern that a top-4 fixture on Ottawa's blueline may miss the start of the 2012/13 season, isn't as overwhelming as it could be.
Still, it's an unexpected kick in the junk for a player who: a) has already had a history of lower body injuries; b) was expected to play a pivotal role on Binghamton's blue line during the lockout; and c) play top four minutes in Ottawa once the lockout concludes.
More as it comes...
