We can finally call this Les Miles/Arkansas charade complete and done. In a press conference this afternoon, AD Joe Alleva confirmed Miles was indeed staying at LSU and would be signing a 7 year extension. That extension will also be accompanied by a raise but declined to comment on how much exactly, but the internet seems to think it's in the neighborhood of $500k annually. Alleva alluded to the fact that this extension was already in the works & it may well have been. Maybe it was taking too long and Miles got his friend up at Arkansas in AD Jeff Long to hurry things up. Miles is already paid in the top 5 of college coaches. In other words, instead of only one dump truck of cash, he's now getting multiple.   All in all, there really was no point to this whole deal. Did Arkansas really think they could land Miles? Are they just posturing to show they're doing their damnedest? Is Jeff Long just trying to see how far $5 million a year will take him? If they did initiate this, the only possible positive I see out of this is lots of publicity for their coaching search in a year when they're going up against two traditionally strong SEC teams in Tennessee and Auburn who are also looking for coaches. Both of those schools also have wads of cash to throw around, but so far have not made such a show of flaunting it. (The whole Gruden owning the Browns thing as part of a UT package was debunked pretty quickly.) Basically they got their name out there with lots of zeros behind it. Interesting to see if it has any actual impact on their search.
