MLB Injury News:
After a hamstring strain sent him to the disabled list over a month ago, Marco Estrada is slowly making his way back to the majors. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the right-hander could pitch in a batting practice session at Chase Field on Saturday, with rookie league players doing the hitting.
Manager Ron Roenicke said that plan was still tentative but if Estrada makes it through the session without any trouble, he could go out on a minor league rehab assignment afterwards. That could mean that Estrada will be able to get back in the rotation the week after the All-Star break.
The Brewers are taking it slow with Estrada after he experienced a setback when on his previous rehab assignment. That was over two weeks ago, so it's obviously taking longer than expected for Estrada to get back to the point where he is no longer concerned about the hamstring.
Milwaukee sent rookie Johnny Hellweg back to the minors after his start this week so there is a spot in the rotation available if Estrada can get back to fitness in time. Yovani Gallardo has also been touted as a potential trade target for a number of teams, including the Rangers and the Diamondbacks, so the Brewers might need Estrada to come back sooner rather than later.
