Brewers starting pitcher Marco Estrada has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his right quad running the bases on Wednesday night against the Giants, the team announced in a statement on Thursday afternoon. Right-handed reliever Mike McClendon will be called up from Triple-A Nashville to replace him.
According to reports citing general manager Doug Melvin, Estrada will miss three to four starts with the ailment.
Estrada joins several other Brewers on the disabled list, as the team has already lost starting pitcher Chris Narveson, shortstop Alex Gonzalez, and first baseman Mat Gamel for the entire season. In 11 games this season, Estrada was 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA.
McClendon struggled mightily in his first stint this season with the club, appearing in three games with a 10.13 ERA. Hell be expected to pick up some of the slack in a bullpen that has been largely overused in the past week, accounting for 28 of the Brewers 61 innings in the past two series.
