• After a tough race at Iowa Speedway last weekend, the No. 20 Dollar General team moved on to the Irish Hills of Michigan looking for a turnaround in their luck. Joe Gibbs Racing driver Brian Vickers started by locking in a ninth place starting position for Saturday afternoon’s 125-lap Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway, the 13th event on the 33-race schedule. • A former winner in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup division at Michigan, Vickers had his hopes set high as the green flag dropped for the Alliance Truck Parts 250, but misfortune quickly moved in. Before he could complete just one lap around the two-mile circuit, he was collected in an accident that started with the No. 99 car of Alex Bowman. • Kevin Kidd, crew chief of the No. 20 car, brought Vickers to pit road to survey the damage and determined that he needed to go to the garage for repairs. The Dollar General crew worked diligently to get the splitter and nose of Vickers’ Camry quickly repaired and had him back onto the race track by lap 41. • Vickers was able to stay up to speed, but another issue ensued. Thankfully, a caution on lap 79 allowed for the 29-year-old to come down pit road so that the crew could work on the car. There was a problem with the alternator, so the team had to change batteries under the yellow. This put the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota four more laps back for the restart. • Vickers soldiered through the remaining 38 laps to finish 45 laps down in the 33rd position. Despite his undesirable finish, Vickers still remains in the top-10 in the Nationwide Series Championship point standings, but moved back three positions from seventh to 10th. • The No. 20 Dollar General team moves on to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin next week for the first road course race of the 2013 season. The Johnsonville Sausage 200 presented by Menards will be Vickers first time racing on Road America’s 4.048-mile course. -Joe Gibbs Racing PR
