Image c/o The Bucs’ first series of last week’s loss against the Jets was an unmitigated disaster. When QB Josh Freeman’s headset stopped working, he was forced to take a time out. Back on the field, the headset continued to malfunction amidst the crowd noise, and the Bucs were slapped with two delay of game penalties in a row. After a sack and a false start penalty, this series mercifully ended in a punt. It seemed clear from the sloppy mess on the field that this would be a long season for Buc fans. Another long season. But that was just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. On the field, the Bucs ended up losing the game when one of the most promising young players, second year linebacker Lavonte David, was penalized for hitting Jets rookie QB Geno Smith as he was running out of bounds. This penalty gave the Jets the field position they needed to kick a winning field goal in the waning seconds of the game, while David teared up on the sideline. Then, off the field, the ...

Four turnovers lead the New York Jets to a 13-10 loss to the Pats

In a rainy, sloppy Thursday night game, the New England Patriots defeated the New York Jets 13-10 in a defensive juggernaut. Stephen Hill’s fumble was one of four turnovers for the New York Jets Geno Smith and the Jets had the ball twice late  in the fourth quarter with a chance to go tie the Patriots with a field goal, or score a touchdown and snap the Patriots five game winning...

Geno Smith lacks the support to win

If the New York Jets had a theme song for Thursday night, it would’ve been Snoop Dogg’s “Drop it like its Hot”. Geno Smith put together an uneven game at best in a 13 to 10 loss to the New England Patriots. The Jets defense did a great job holding Tom Brady in check most of the game as Mo Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson kept pressure on Brady. Take it with a grain of salt...

Jets' Smith 'mad at myself' for mistakes in loss

Geno Smith is eager to get back on the field for the New York Jets after a frustrating loss to the New England Patriots last Thursday night. The rookie quarterback says Monday he was ''mad at myself'' for some of the mistakes that were made during a ''sloppy'' fourth quarter for the Jets (1-1) in the 13-10 defeat. Smith was intercepted three times...

Rex: Would be different if we caught football

BY NICK ST. DENISAt a glance, Geno Smith's Thursday night stat line was porous. Smith completed just 15 of 35 pass attempts for 214 yards and three interceptions -- all of which came in the fourth quarter. What isn't in the stat line are the drops. And there were a lot of them.“Obviously (Smith)’s numbers would look a lot different if we caught the football,” Jets coach...

Brad Nessler Had ‘To Go to the Little Boys’ Room’ During Patriots-Jets Game (Video)

When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go. As NFL Network was getting ready to kick off its first Thursday Night Football game of the season, announcer Brad Nessler heard the call of the wild. So while Geno Smith led the Jets onto the turf at Gillette Stadium to take on the Patriots, Nessler informed the crew he had to make a brief pit stop — and was captured saying so on air...

Competition about to get tougher for Patriots

With an unimpressive offense, the New England Patriots are unbeaten after strong fourth quarters by the defense. But what will happen when they don't play rookie quarterbacks? They're about to find out. After squeaking out wins over the Buffalo Bills, with EJ Manuel at quarterback, and New York Jets, with Geno Smith under center, the Patriots will face two of the NFL&...

Forecasting the future of Mark Sanchez

From the moment that the New York Jets brain-trust drafted quarterback Geno Smith the in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, it was more than apparent that Smith was their new guy.The rookie was seemingly defeated in a quarterback competition that he had already won before he put on a green and white jersey. Incumbent Mark Sanchez lost the confidence of the front office last...

Sanchez is designated to return Week 11 after rehabbing his shoulder.Sanchez, meanwhile, isn't ready to give Smith the job, either. The veteran signal-caller is committed to helping the rookie along through...

They Are Who We Thought They Were: Dirty Jets Instigate Scuffle, Whine Afterwards

If it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck... It's certainly easy to see why the Jets were frustrated. Despite holding longtime nemesis Tom Brady to an ugly 19-39 for only 185 yards, Geno Smith's third interception of the day had sealed a 13-10 New England victory. In a rivalry this intense, tempers have a way of flaring up. However, there's no excusing the...
