Northwestern destroyed a stuffed monkey after finally winning a bowl game

Northwestern defeated Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl on Tuesday to win its first bowl game since 1949. For those of you who struggle with math, that’s a 64-year drought. The Wildcats had lost nine straight bowl appearances prior to the 34-20 victory, which was tied with Notre Dame for the longest bowl losing streak. One might say Northwestern got the monkey of its back with...

Wildcats Snap State's Bowl Success Streak

JACKSONVILLE -- Somebody’s bowl streak had to end in Jacksonville. Either Mississippi State would extend its run of post-season success to a national-best six games…or Northwestern would snap four years of frustration with a bowl victory. It was the Wildcats who walked off EverBank Field happy after 34-20 Gator Bowl victory.

Bulldog Post-Gator Bowl Notebook

JACKSONVILLE – Arceto Clark was Mississippi State’s leading receiver as a junior and four of his grabs went for touchdowns. But he went his entire senior regular season without finding the end zone. Bowl season was another matter.

"This Is A Business Trip"

Give the Bulldogs credit for saying the right things. Just ask Johnthan Banks if his team is serious about this Gator Bowl. “We wouldn’t want to let our team come down here as a team and embarrass ourselves. And we know how Coach is about coming back and having fun and not going to work. This is a business trip, we haven’t come here to party around. We came here to win a football game.”

No wavering by Jones

ORLANDO, Fla. - Many schools are trying to turn Chris Jones away from Mississippi State, but he says all the right things to make the Bulldog Nation feel good about his commitment.
