Byrd hospitalized after being hit by pitch

Chicago Cubs center fielder Marlon Byrd was taken to a Boston hospital Saturday night after being struck by a pitch for the third time in two days, MLB.com reported. Byrd fell to the ground clutching his face after the second-inning pitch from Red Sox right-hander Alfredo Aceves caused a bloody gash under his left eye. The 33-year-old All-Star, who was hit by pitches twice on Friday, was taken to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for examination.
