TEMPE, Ariz. Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell did not practice on Wednesday and rode a stationary bike during the open portion of practice with his right calf taped. The teams official injury report later listed him with a calf injury. Coach Ken Whisenhunt would not comment on the injury after Wednesdays practice, saying only that Campbell would be on the injury report, which had not yet been released. We can talk about it (Thursday) after the injury report comes out, Whisenhunt said with a smile on his face. There is no injury report yet, so I cant confirm or deny anything. If Campbell does miss time, it would obviously be a significant loss for the defense, which has already lost outside linebacker OBrien Schofield for the season to an ankle injury. Veteran Vonnie Holliday would likely be in line to replace Campbell (37 tackles, 3.5 sacks) in the starting lineup. The Cards re-signed defensive end Ronald Talley last week for depth. Talley played in six games last season for the Cardinals and spent the preseason with the team until he was released in the final roster cut on Aug. 31. Multi-outlet NFL reporter Adam Caplan also tweeted that the Cards worked out former Bears third-round pick (2008) Marcus Harrison this week. The defensive tackle was most recently with the Patriots. KOETTER LIVING THE DREAM Dirk Koetter never tried to hide his NFL connections while he was the head coach at Arizona State from 2001 to 2006. Nor did he hide his desire to some day test those waters, constantly referring to the opportunities he would have some day because of my NFL guys. Jacksonville afforded him his first opportunity in 2007, but his first season as Atlantas offensive coordinator is the first chance hes really had to succeed. The Falcons have a talented offense that starts with quarterback Matt Ryan and also includes receivers Roddy White, Julio Jones, tight end Tony Gonzalez and running back Michael Turner. When Jacksonville hired former Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey this season as their head coach, Atlanta coach Mike Smith tabbed Koetter almost immediately to replace Mularkey in what felt like a trade of coaches. My last year in Jacksonville was his first year, said Smith, who had been the Jags defensive coordinator from 2003-2007. It was very apparent of his abilities as an offensive coordinator and more importantly, as a person. He has the same philosophies that we have here, and hes fit in extremely well. Under Koetter, the Falcons offense is ranked sixth in the NFL in yards per game (385.2), seventh in points (27.4) and, not surprisingly to anyone who watched Koetters teams at ASU, fourth in passing yards (292.6). He has brought some different elements to our offense, Ryan said. Hes done a great job in our vertical passing game. Hes very well versed in that area and I think hes also helped us in terms of screens. Those are two areas where I felt like we could improve, and I think hes helped us in those areas. INJURY REPORT Campbell (calf) and QB Kevin Kolb (ribs) did not practice on Wednesday. TE Todd Heap (knee), CB Jamell Fleming (back), TE Jeff King (knee), RG Adam Snyder (quad), CB Greg Toler (hamstring) and LS Mike Leach (back) were limited. FS Kerry Rhodes (back) practiced in full.
