It seems a stretch that Chris Tanev would be forced to sign on with a Kontinental Hockey League club or one in the Swiss A league but a player who should know says the young D-man would thrive in Europe.
Tanev 23 a restricted free agent is deadlocked in contract negotiations with the Canucks on a new deal but over the weekend interest surfaced from the KHL and Swiss leagues.
Jeff Tambellini played with the Canucks in 2010-11 and was a teammate of Tanev – then a rookie – in the second half of that season. He also played for Zurich in the top Swiss league the last two seasons and is well acquainted with the KHL. Tambellini was reached in Ornskoldsvik Sweden where he's playing for Modo this season.
