PLAYERS: Fabio Capello
Fabio Capello, the former England manager, has been mentioned in discussions at Tottenham as a shock candidate to take over if current boss Andre Villas-Boas is sacked. Villas-Boas came under pressure after Sunday’s 6-0 thumping at Manchester City and Capello would be high on the list of chairman Daniel Levy’s possible successors. Spurs’ bosses, who bankrolled a £110million summer spending spree by Villas-Boas, have been losing patience with him. But he earned breathing space with Thursday’s Europa League defeat of Tromso — and victory over Manchester United at White Hart Lane today would silence many critics angered after home defeats by West Ham and Newcastle and that humiliation at City.
