Known as more of a shutdown defenseman, the 6′ 4″ Urbom was New Jersey’s 3rd round choice in 2009 having played his Junior hockey with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League (the same team Eric Fehr played with). The Stockholm, Sweden native has played in 14 career NHL games scoring two goals, with his first coming back in 2011 against the Boston Bruins and Tuukka Rask. A member of the 2012 AHL All-Star team last season with New Jersey’s affiliate in Albany, Urbom registered 12 points (2 goals 10 assists) in 50 games last season. To make room for Urbom, the Capitals have sent center Michael Latta back down to Hershey. Latta, who was acquired last season at the Trade Deadline with Martin Erat from Nashville for Filip Forsberg, was the team’s 4th line center in Tuesday’s 6-4 loss in Chicago registering no points. The St. Clement’s Ontario, Canada native scored 10 goals in 76 games with both the Milwaukee Admirals and Hershey Bears and added 198 penalty minutes. No word yet on whether or not Urbom will be in the lineup for tonight’s home opener against the Calgary Flames.
