The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Troy Brouwer to a three-year, $11 million contract extension.  General Manager George McPhee said this about the extension: “We are pleased to sign Troy Brouwer to a contract extension. Troy is a physical and versatile power forward who can play both wings and who has averaged close to 20 goals in the past three seasons. He is a Stanley Cup winner and a great leader. We are thrilled that he will continue his career in Washington for many years to come.”   Last season was Brouwer’s first season with the Caps, after being traded to Washington from the Chicago Blackhawks in the off-season of 2011. He scored 18 goals and 15 assists, collecting a total of 33 points, and amassed 61 penalty minutes in 82 games in the 2011-2012 season with the Caps. Brouwer was the fourth top goal scorer on the team and second with 60 blocked shots. During the playoffs, Brouwer scored 2 goals and 2 assists and recorded 8 penalty minutes.
