The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-handed reliever Scott Linebrink on the 15-day disabled list.
Linebrink has been bothered by recurring soreness in the lat muscle under his right shoulder.
The 35-year-old Linebrink was signed to a major league contract last week. He made 10 appearances this spring.
The Cardinals will promote righthander Victor Marte to take Linebrink's spot in the bullpen.
Linebrink made 64 appearances with the Atlanta Braves last year, posting a 4-4 record and 3.64 ERA.

2012 Outlook – 60 (8th)
One down, 161 to go, right?
I think the assumption around baseball was if Albert Pujols left the Cardinals, he would leave a husk of a team behind him. If his teammates didn’t prove their worth enough throughout their playoff run in 2011, they’ll get ample chance to do so in 2012. They should be up to the challenge, as this roster was especially well...

Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman:
“I just feel like, if it were up to me — and it’s not; nobody asked me, and I don’t know why anybody would care about my opinion — but if I was building...

Picking up where they left off
So far, the St. Louis Cardinals are making it look easy in 2012. And while no one would say anything in 2011 was easy—maybe when they put Game 7 of the World Series out of reach…maybe—the Cards are playing a lot like they did at the end of last season.
And that’s no small feat, for a couple of reasons. Mike Matheny and his revamped coaching staff may not have been tested...
