The St. Louis Cardinals are taking every precaution necessary to preserve the health of their top-ranked prsoect Oscar Taveras.  Taveras has been experiencing on-going soreness in his ankle, so the team decided to place him on the disabled list. #Cardinals top prospect Oscar Taveras is going on the DL in Class AAA Memphis with ongoing soreness in his ankle. #stlminors #stlcards — Derrick Goold (@dgoold) May 28, 2013 Taveras is the third-best prospect in baseball according to Baseball America and MLB.com this season. He has progressed through the Cardinals' minor league system and is currently playing at Triple-A Memphis.  Taveras is not far away from a Major League call-up as long as he can stay healthy.  The ankle injury appears to be a minor setback in his season, but the Cardinals will monitor Taveras' progress closely. Taveras, the source of numerous unfounded traded rumors, is having a nice Triple-A season.  In fact, he's had a nice minor league career overall.  This season, Taveras is hitting .317/.351/.480.  In 358 minor league games over the course of his career, Taveras is a .321/.378/.521 hitter. The injury will likely delay any potential call-up for Taveras, but the Cardinals may have been planning on waiting until roster expansion in September to call him up.  They can bring Taveras to the Majors anytime now without burning an extra year of pre-arbitration eligibility.
