(via CardinalsFarm.com) The St. Louis Cardinals have made a couple of major roster moves that could impact the big club for the rest of the season. These roster moves have caused a domino effect throughout the system. First lets look at the move that happened on Thursday affecting the Cardinals bullpen, then we will get to the domino effect of catchers. Carlos Martinez recalled from Memphis, Michael Blazek optioned to Memphis This will be Martinez’s second stint with the Cardinals. Martinez was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 7 games in his first stint. At Memphis, Martinez was 3-2 with a 1.98 ERA in 41 innings. Martinez was sent to Memphis originally to be stretched out as a starter. My guess is Martinez will be the Cardinals’ 5th starter when they need one in late July. He will also be a fresh arm in the bullpen until the time is needed for him to start. MLB needs to hold umpires, like Dan Bellino, accountable for their actions

MLB umpires are getting out of hand and the league is doing little about it. Last night's game between the Cubs and Cardinals was yet another example of an umpire trying to make himself bigger than the game. After getting called out on strikes last night, Matt Adams questioned the call on his way back to the dugout.  It was a mild and low-key protest, but apparently, this...

Q&A With Cardinals 2013 First-Rounder Rob Kaminsky

It’s every baseball player’s dream to one day hear their name called in the MLB Draft. For most, this dream never becomes reality, but hard work and some God-given talent will surely help one’s chances. St. Joseph Regional High School’s ace pitcher, Rob Kaminsky, is about as dominant as you can get when on the mound. As a senior, Kaminsky went 13-1 with a 1.30 ERA and a K...

Wainwright hoping to work All-Star system to Mujica's advantage

ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals All-Star right-hander Adam Wainwright has a dilemma. He would like to pitch in the All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Citi Field. But caring teammate that he is, he would like even more for Cardinals closer Edward Mujica to pitch in the All-Star Game. Wainwright so badly wants his teammate to make his first All-Star team that he gladly would give up his...

Cardinals' Matt Holliday leaves early with hamstring tightness

The St. Louis Cardinals may soon be listing Matt Holliday along with the ever-increasing list of players to be hit with a hamstring issue this season.  Holliday had to be removed from last night's game when his hamstring tightened up on him.  This does not mean he has a strain, but it is a sign. #Cardinals OF Matt Holliday left game with what's been called "right...

With Descalso knocking on SS door, Matheny clearly has Kozma's back

ST. LOUIS -- High on the list of Mike Matheny's assets as a manager is always having his players' backs. He is widely regarded as a player's manager and his players know he will protect them. What, exactly, this means is a little beyond me. It's not like I've seen Matheny serving as a bodyguard for the Cardinals. But I did come across a telling example this...

St. Louis Cardinals: Q&A with prospect Carson Kelly

(via stlcupofjoe.com) Carson Kelly is an 18 year old prospect that some scouts project as the St. Louis Cardinals third baseman of the future. He was drafted in the second round of the 2012 MLB draft by St. Louis. He played his prep ball at Westview High School in Portland, Oregon. After the draft, he was torn between going pro or attending his home-state school, the University...

Cardinals' Holliday comes off DL

Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and is starting against the Braves on Saturday. Holliday had been out since July 12 with a strained right hamstring. With Holliday's return, Allen Craig is starting at first base. Craig played left field with Matt Adams at first base during Holliday's absence. Adams is not starting on...

Cardinals' Yadier Molina returns to lineup after knee injury

Frightened St. Louis Cardinals fans can rest easy now knowing Yadier Molina is back.  Despite the fact that it was previously reported that Molina had no structural damage in his injured knee.  Molina went for an MRI over the weekend and was out of action for two games until last night. Molina returned and went 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored last night.  The Cardinals...

Series preview: Martinez recalled from Memphis as Cards head to Chicago

ST. LOUIS -- When top pitching prospect Carlos Martinez was sent from the Cardinals to Memphis in late May, the club said it wanted to prepare him to start. Those plans apparently have been put on hold. With the Cardinals' bullpen running short on rested arms, Martinez has been promoted from Triple-A Memphis and another rookie who had been working as a reliever, Michael Blazek...

While the St. Louis Cardinals sit atop the NL Central and the Chicago Cubs find themselves near the bottom, manager Dale Sveum's club isn't to be overlooked. The Cubs try to keep rolling Friday when they continue a four-game set against the visiting Cardinals, who could be without Matt Holliday. Fourth-place Chicago (41-49) has won five of six and 16 of 27 after taking...

CHICAGO -- Carlos Beltran had three hits and drove in a run, while reliever-turned-starter Joe Kelly (1-3) won his first game of the season as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 Friday at Wrigley Field.
