Carmelo Anthony may be hoping to have Rajon Rondo as a teammate instead of an opponent.Photo Credit: Celticstown.com/AP After a return to relevance for the New York Knicks this past season, the team has made the decision to bring back many of the familiar faces that contributed to their success instead of making significant roster changes, aside from the acquisition of Andrea Bargnani from the Toronto Raptors. The Knicks have already secured key reserves JR Smith and Pablo Prigioni, and have only signed a rookie free agent C.J Leslie, along with draft pick Tim Hardaway Jr. However, it seems that may have not been the wishes of star forward Carmelo Anthony if he was making personnel decisions. Reports have surfaced saying that Anthony expected the team to make a run at Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, specifically after the C’s traded Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Knicks rival, the Brooklyn Nets. Here are some details via Marc Berman of the NY Post: Anthony told friends after the Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce trade to the Nets, he figured the Knicks would make a play for point guard for Rajon Rondo. Anthony believes Rondo would be the perfect piece and would be super motivated in New York to attempt to knock off Garnett and Pierce. With the growing worry that Anthony may bolt New York for the sunny skies in LA come 2014, this definitely is not a welcomed report for Knick fans. The Knicks went through a lot of trouble to acquire Anthony from the Nuggets a couple of years ago, and would be wise to do everything in their power to keep him happy. That being said, just because they did not acquire Rondo does not mean they didn’t try, or won’t do so come this year’s trade deadline. Depending on how Rondo gets along with new coach Brad Stevens, the Celtics may be looking to ship him out of town by February, and the Knicks would definitely be wise to pursue him at that point.
