The Johnny Manziel saga is going to be reaching a fever pitch on Saturday in College Station, when during the Alabama-Texas A&M game, CBS will have a camera focused solely on the Aggies' quarterback all game. Check out this blurb from Richard Deitsch's weekly SI media column.
They are calling it Johnny Cam. For the mega-showdown this Saturday at Kyle Field between Alabama and Texas A&M, CBS Sports has added an extra camera that will focus solely on Texas A&M quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel. "No matter where he is and no matter what part of the game it is, we will have a shot of it," said Craig Silver, the coordinating producer of college football for CBS Sports. "If he is anywhere in sight of that camera, we will catch it."
Overkill, or justified? If Manziel wasn't the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, would he be under this type of scrutiny? If all of the off-field shenanigans didn't take place this offseason, would he be under this type of scrutiny? The answer to both questions is unknown, but when you combine the two situations along with A&M upsetting the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa last year, you have all the makings of a captivating contest between two of the SEC's best.
There are a number of issues that could arise from having a camera focused solely on Manziel, the most significant of which is a possibility of an overkill of focus on the sophomore. Manziel's sitting on the bench? Manziel's stretching his leg? Manziel's flexing his arm? QUICK, TO THE JOHNNY CAM! This could get extremely irritating very quickly, and CBS really needs to toe the line carefully so they don't drive viewers up the wall.
BEST OF MAXIM
I get on ESPN for beating us in the head with things that aren’t necessary (like the way they hyped Clowney), so to be fair I have to do the same to other networks, in this case CBS. According to Richard Deitsch in his SI Media column, CBS will have “Johnny Cam” for the much anticipated Texas A&M vs. Alabama matchup. They are calling it Johnny Cam. For the mega-showdown...

This is how Johnny Manziel will be judged.
Unless he leads the #6 Texas A&M Aggies to the SEC Title game, and later a BCS berth, this is the standard. Manziel obviously did it last year, he was the only QB1 to beat the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide; even as the Tide went on to win it all yet again.

Much quieter and more composed this week after serving his half-game suspension last week, it was the Johnny Manziel show against Sam Houston State for the Texas A&M Aggies.
