Via the Dallas News:Wednesday is
when teams officially can begin talking to free agents, and Kidd is
expected to get overtures from several teams: Cleveland, Portland,
Boston, New York and perhaps the Lakers. All of those
teams except for Portland are stymied by the salary cap. The Knicks can
only offer their mid-level exception, expected to be between $5 million
and $6 million. Kidd earned $21 million last season. This is the first time I've read the Celtics and Jason Kidd in the same sentence. The 36-year old Kidd can still fill up a stat sheet: 9 ppg, 8.7 apg, 6 rpg and 2 spg. But he's slowed down tremendously. At some point soon, he'll look ridiculous playing defense. While I would enjoy seeing Kidd backing up Rondo and at times orchestrating the offense with the first teamers, he will be too expensive. A lot of teams will be chasing Kidd and that means he likely get the full mid-level. I don't want him at that price. Oh yeah.....
