Following back-to-back three-win seasons, the Central Michigan Chippewas aren’t exactly hoarding big-time recruits. And with Kelly/Shorts Stadium not exactly being a crown jewel, the coaching staff and athletic department needed a ploy to get high schoolers interested in CMU football again. They needed a gimick. The most popular gimick in today’s college football is the uniform – having combinations and lots of them. It’s only natural that Central’s athletic director came from the University of Oregon, the king of uniform combinations.
CMU debuted their new digs Wesdnesday (see below). Designed by adidas, they feature eight combinations of black, maroon, gold and white tops and bottoms. The helmets are also new for 2012. They are going with a black helmet with the tradition “Flying C” on both sides and a tapering maroon stripe down the middle, trimmed with gold.
