Perhaps most known for his public meltdowns, rock star lifestyle and revolving carousel of porn star girlfriends, Charlie Sheen unveiled his 2 newest hobbies to the people of Cincinnati earlier this month: philanthropy and politics. A longtime baseball fan, Sheen had spoken with the Reds announcers earlier this season when the Reds were playing the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman had been talking the Reds up, and somewhere in the conversation vowed to shave his head if the Reds won 10 games in a row at some point this year.

True to form, the Reds beat the Diamondbacks on July 19th, and then swept 3 consecutive 3-game series against the Brewers, Astros and Rockies, giving them exactly a 10-game winning streak before finally falling to the Padres on July 30th.

Brennaman originally pledged to shave his head on the field after a game if fans combined to give a total of $20,000 to the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund. Well, the fine people of Cincy one-upped that goal and ended up donating a total of $50,000.

Sheen just happened to be in town the 1st weekend of August for his father, Martin Sheen’s, 72nd birthday party, but that didn’t prevent Charlie from attending the Reds-Pirates game on August 5th. Sheen wanted to contribute, but rather than shave his head he opted to keep his locks and instead cut a check to the Reds Community Fund for $50,000, matching the money Brennaman helped raise.

Fox Sports Ohio broadcaster Jim Day interviewed Sheen during the game, and needless to say there were some funny moments. Sheen raved about the city of Cincinnati and its people, even going as far as to announce his plans to run for Mayor of Cincinnati in the near future. Thankfully, for the greater good of the city – and society as a whole – this was said in jest.
