The Chicago Bears have announced that they released former first-round pick Chris Williams on Tuesday. The team will release the offensive tackle and resign cornerback Zack Bowman to a one-year contract. Williams began training camp competing with J'Marcus Webb for the starting left tackle job. Williams lost the battle, and even fell behind Jonathan Scott as the teams' swing tackle moving forward. Williams was the 14th overall pick of the Chicago Bears in the 2008 NFL Draft. He started 38 games in five seasons and has bounced all over the line throughout his time in Chicago. He was inactive despite being healthy for Chicago's last two games. With Williams no longer in the picture, starting right tackle Gabe Carimi is now the only former first-round pick taken in the Jerry Angelo era remaining on the roster. Angelo was let go as general manager after last season. Williams never lived up to the hype, as he was supposed to lead the next generation of offensive lineman in Chicago. ** Bowman
