Amber Miller is an experienced marathoner who ran the Chicago Marathon this past Sunday, and finished, despite being almost 39-weeks pregnant.  It took the Chicago woman 6 hours and 25 minutes to finish the 26.2 mile race, which is a bit slower than Miller’s usual marathon times.

Of course, she never ran those races during a full term pregnancy either.

Not too long after completing the grueling run, Miller’s contractions started, and a few hours later gave birth to a healthy baby girl named June.  And before you go thinking that she was crazy for undertaking a marathon so far into her pregnancy, think again—Miller was given the go ahead by her doctor.

So there.

From the AP…

Sunday’s marathon was the eighth for the 27-year-old, who has been running for more than a dozen years. She found out she was pregnant with her second child days after signing up for the Chicago race and decided to play it by ear on whether or not she would run.

When the baby hadn’t been born by Sunday, she got clearance from her doctor to run half. She completed it with a with a half-run half-walk approach, drinking lots of fluids and eating a lot along the way. She finished in 6:25:50, much slower than her usual marathon time, but still content.

This isn’t the first time Miller has participated in a marathon while pregnant.  She did the Wisconsin Marathon in May while at 17-weeks with June, and ran the Indianapolis Marathon when she was 18-weeks with her first child in 2009.  Still, that’s a huge difference, belly-sized wise, between those gestation periods and 39-weeks.
