Fox Sports South:
With the infield and outfield previews in the books, the FOX Sports South team tackles the pitching rotation this week, one that looks like it could become one of the best in baseball in 2013. With Kris Medlen, Tim Hudson, Paul Maholm and a host of young arms, Atlanta should be more than prepared to hold its own until the expected return of top-line starter Brandon Beachy from Tommy John surgery.
Here are the highlights from this week's episodes:
-- 1:45: Kris Medlen finished last season in historic fashion. What is to be expected of the 27-year-old ace this season?
-- 3:00: Brandon Beachy's impending return from injury could prove to be the X-factor for Atlanta, for if he returns to form the Braves' ceiling is significantly higher. How will the Braves work him back into action?
-- 6:30: Mike Minor could be poised for a breakout season.
-- 10:15: Regardless of all the young arms and potential, Tim Hudson, 37, remains the stabilizing force behind the team's rotation. Is the veteran still at the top of his game?
-- 13:30: The No. 1 point of interest in spring training? The No. 5 spot in the rotation. Who are the contenders?
-- 21:30: With all the new additions in the Braves' outfield, the team is expected to be outstanding defensively once again in 2013. How does a quality defense affect a pitcher's psyche?
-- 23:30: Will the Braves feature more than four pitchers with 10 or more wins? Will Julio Teheran remain in the rotation all season? Is it difficult to pronounce "reliever preview?"

With Chipper Jones' uniform No. 10 likely to join the former third baseman in retirement, Justin Upton will switch to No. 8 in Atlanta. However, the newest Brave likely will inherit the future Hall of Famer's one-time slot in the batting order. Manager Fredi Gonzalez has already penciled in the left fielder as his No. 3 hitter, and the Braves go into spring training excited...
BJ Upton will largely replace the speed lost with departure of Michael Bourn in CF
Charged with the mission of replacing future Hall of Famer Chipper Jones AND All-Star center-fielder Michael Bourn in this Atlanta lineup, Braves GM Frank Wren had a whale of a task ahead of him this winter. Well, okay… with plenty of trade chips and cash to spend, perhaps a “whale” is overstating...

The crack of the bat, the thump of ball against leather, the Steeeee-rike call from the Umps. Ahhh……baseball is getting closer and closer to returning. With Spring Training just around the corner, in about two weeks actually, every baseball fan is trying to speculate about his or her favorite team’s line-up. Will the star Minor Leaguer make the squad, will we finally find our...
It seems like a question with a simple answer.
Who will be the Braves fifth starter until Brandon Beachy returns from Tommy John surgery? What looked to be a spring training battle waged between Randall Delgado and Julio Teheran took on a different complexion after Delgado was traded to the Diamondbacks last week in the seven-player deal that brought Justin Upton to Atlanta.
Evan Gattis, on the left, has been playing more LF and doing less catching

Andrelton Simmons is thought by many experts to have all-star potential
Nobody with any baseball sense would question how important leadoff hitters are. The question for the Braves….. Who is going to hit leadoff? Andrelton Simmons seems like the likely candidate as of right now, but could the Braves make another move?
Let’s focus on the idea that Simmons is the Braves lead...

There were tears. But that was to be expected.
A mother's pride can only manifest itself in so many ways, so when Yvonne Upton sat down beside her older son B.J. while her younger son, Justin, was announced as an Atlanta Brave, she could be forgiven a dab or two around the eyes.
"This is the greatest day for us," Yvonne said after the press conference. "It&...

ATLANTA -- Fredi Gonzalez sat down and started writing out projected lineups last week as soon as he heard the Braves had traded for Justin Upton.
It didn't take long. The manager says making out lineups just got easier.
Gonzalez used 107 lineups last year, sometimes adjusting due to the opposing pitcher.
He said his juggling days are over...
It’s that time of the year when we take stock of the Atlanta Braves organization and analyze the top prospects. For the next few weeks, we will profile our top-30 prospect list in groups of five. Here are those who cracked the bottom five.
The Red Sox may have filled the most obvious hole on their roster today by agreeing to a minor-league deal with Lyle Overbay, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.
I was all ready to line up joke after joke about Overbay being old (36) and always hurt, but really on a minor-league deal this is a solid move. He's a patient hitter (career OBP .353 vs. AVG of .270) with plenty of...

While the Arizona Diamondbacks’ trade of Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves for Martin Prado and a grab bag of prospects won’t have a ton of fantasy impact for the players involved, it can teach us a worthwhile lesson about fantasy baseball strategy.
The lesson: In baseball, there’s no such thing as absolute value.
ESPN’s Keith Law trashed Arizona...
