Found May 26, 2012 on The Football Fan Spot:
Chris Johnson is coming off his worst and most disappointing season as a pro, rushing for just 1047 yards and 4 touchdowns on 262 carries last year after being made the 2nd highest paid running back in the league before the season. Johnson’s struggles last season were blamed on him failing in stay in shape during a holdout that lasted most of the offseason. The numbers back this up. In his last 8 games, he carried the ball 141 times for 681 yards and 3 touchdowns, as opposed to 121 times for 366 yards and a touchdown in his first 8. Johnson has vowed to be in even better shape for the entirety of the 2012 season and he seems to be making good on his promise. Normally he works out at home in Orlando in the offseason and skips the voluntary parts of the offseason, but this offseason he is participating in all of the offseason program, even the voluntary parts. The Titans coaching staff has been very pleased with him and he looks poised to have a bounce back season next year, especiall...

Titans Notebook: QB competition open

Chris Palmer has been around long enough not to tip his hand in anything, especially a quarterback competition in training camp. Coach Mike Munchak has thrown open the Titans' quarterback position between incumbent Matt Hasselbeck and last year's first-round pick Jake Locker. Palmer says he is fine with either one under center and winning the job. As for Locker, it is an...

Titans coordinator expanding passing options

Nate Washington jokes that Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer has been busy in the ''lab'' scheming up new ways for Tennessee to attack on offense. Well, what's new actually is something a bit old school. Just call it a variation of the run and shoot. Palmer said Thursday he is expanding the playbook from the limited approach introduced last year that...

Titans have Kendall Wright learning Kenny Britt’s position

Getty Images According to John Glennon of the Tennessean, Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer has indicated that rookie wide receiver Kendell Wright has been practicing as the X receiver, which is Kenny Britt’s position.  Once he’s done learning Britt’s position he’ll move on to the others. It makes sense for Wright to learn the X position since Britt is coming off...

Titans OC expanding passing options

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Nate Washington jokes that Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer has been busy in the "lab" scheming up new ways for Tennessee to attack on offense. Well, what's new actually is something a bit old school. Just call it a variation of the run and shoot. Palmer said Thursday he is expanding the playbook from the limited approach introduced...

Alterraun Verner lining up in Cortland Finnegan’s old role in Titans OTAs

The Titans’ biggest offseason loss was Cortland Finnegan, who signed a massive deal in St. Louis, but the Titans feel they have the in house talent to make up for the loss. Jason McCourty was an above average cornerback last year and will remain a starter this year. Meanwhile, Alterraun Verner is lining up as the starter opposite him in OTAs and, like Finnegan did before him, he’s...

Titans in no rush to pick a starting quarterback

This offseason has been highlighted by quarterback competitions as well as the coming of new eras around the league. Robert Griffin III will take over as the Redskins' starter, Andrew Luck will be the field commander in Indianapolis. The Seahawks are gearing up for a three way quarterback competition, the Jaguars will be deciding between Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne, and the...

Why Jerry Gray wants another safety

Pardon the lack of content from me lately-it's Football Outsiders Almanac writing season, and since I'm not writing the Titans chapter this year, all my football writing and study efforts lately are directed at other teams. With OTAs going on, though, we're hearing things from the players and coordinators, and some of them are kind of interesting. I plan to write in more...

Locating the hypothesis and the Titans' offensive line

Pardon the idiosyncratic reference, but I want to push back a little bit against Andrew's recent series on the offensive line. Mind you, I'm not disputing the numbers at all. They are what they are. There are a lot of numbers out there, though, and some of them don't necessarily mean what people sometimes claim they mean. The paradigmatic case is running back attempts...
