A clever, young Boston Red Sox fan was able to trick the New York Yankees third-base coach into giving him a foul ball.  He wore a Yankees hat over his Red Sox hat in order to trick the coach into tossing the ball to him.  After he safely had corralled the ball, he took off the Yankees hat.  Just a fantastic job thinking outside the box by this kid. Sabathia is his own toughest critic

C.C. Sabathia said it so somebody else didn't have to. " I suck. " Well, there was more to it than that. The Yankees pitcher on Sunday gave up seven runs on nine hits in five innings in an 8-7, 11-inning loss to the Boston Red Sox. Afterward, according to the New York Daily News , he just let it all out. "I wish I had an excuse or something," Sabathia lamented...

Yankees Alex Rodriguez to Have MRI on Injured Quad

It’s an open secret that the New York Yankees don’t want third baseman Alex Rodriguez, back in the lineup, not with the impending suspensions that are supposedly coming from Major League Baseball, so this is an injury they may welcome. Rodriguez, who was expected to return to the team on Monday, after missing the first four months of the season due to a hip injury, injured...

Yankees: You are breaking my heart

Last night’s 7-8, 11th inning loss to the Boston Red Sox might have been the icing on the cake. New York Yankees (Photo credit: Keith Allison) Clearly it time is up for the New York Yankees, as holding down the fort is no longer a practical game plan. The Yankees losing two of three games up in Fenway Park to start the second-half of the season is not what needed to happen. It...

The All-Star Game/Home Field Debate: the arguments, the stats, and possible alternatives

We all remember the 2002 All-Star game. Both teams famously ran out of pitchers, thus ending the game in an embarrassing, unsatisfying tie. Not wanting another episode like this, the following year the MLB decided the game would now determine home field advantage for the World Series. This year marks the 10th anniversary of a so-called “meaningful All-Star game....

Major League Baseball Expected To Suspend A-Rod, Many Others

From Jon Heyman:Alex Rodriguez, who once appeared on his way to breaking baseball's all-time home run record, is all but assured of a Biogenesis-related MLB ban being levied against him -- quite possibly more than the usual 50 games for first-time offenders -- people familiar with the case say. Rodriguez is expected to be one of up to 15 or so players to receive suspensions...

VIDEO: Unbelievable double play by Chris Stewart

New York Yankees catcher Chris Stewart made a defensive play today that will probably go down as one of the best of the season. Stewart went behind homeplate for a routine pop fly, the ball kept carrying so Stewart had to reach into the stands and actually fell into them. That wasn’t the impressive part though Daniel Nava of the Boston Red Sox tried to tag up from first, a smart...

Mike Napoli’s Game-Winning Home Run Just Latest in Long Line of Red Sox Walk-Offs This Year (Videos)

There are few greater sounds in the world for Red Sox fans than the first few chords of “Dirty Water” by The Standells. The beginning of that sound, played after every Sox win at Fenway Park, sounds even better when it’s accompanied by deafening applause brought on by a walk-off win. There’s been plenty of that at Fenway this season, as the Red Sox have nine walk-off wins...

Alex Rodriguez reportedly seeks second opinion on injury, doesn’t tell Yankees

Alex Rodriguez is believed to have recovered from the hip injury that has haunted him for over a year. Now, it is a quad injury that has been ailing A-Rod. On Sunday, Rodriguez went for an MRI and the New York Yankees announced that he is expected to miss another 7-10 days with a Grade [...]

Doctor clears Clay Buchholz to pitch

Red Sox righthander Clay Buchholz was in Gulf Breeze, Fla., today to meet with Dr. James Andrews. The verdict? Dr. Andrews agrees with the Red Sox that Buchholz has only inflammation in the bursa sac of his shoulder and can pitch without fear of further injury. “Clay comes back, I think, with a little bit more peace of mind and he’ll continue on the throwing program that’s...

Clay Buchholz to meet with Dr. Andrews in Fla.

After six weeks of false hope and maddening disappointment, Clay Buchholz will turn to the foremost authority on shoulder injuries to determine exactly what is causing his right shoulder to keep flaring. Today, Buchholz has an appointment with Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla. It usually is an ominous sign whenever a pitcher meets with Andrews. But Buchholz’ trip comes at the...

Special Mo-ment at Fenway Park

The Guru Contributing Writer Saturday afternoon Yankees closer Mariano Rivera made his way to the mound. It was time for the Sandman to record career save number 639, number 57 against the Red Sox, and number 35 at Fenway Park. The 37,601 Fenway Faithful noticed and rose to give MLB's all-time saves leader a standing ovation. Red Sox fans may not love you Mo, but they do...
